I am the type of person who will work out for 2 months hardcore the quit and gain weight. The problem is I hate working out and get bored. Any suggestions of what to do to substitute the gym or to make the gym fun?

Group fitness classes are hard not to form friendships in. Try a boot camp. Check out a kickboxing class. Join your local mountain biking club and burn cals on amazing trails that you weren't aware of. (My favorite rides were high speed night rides with the blur and slap of tree branches and the flashing of your head lamp cutting the darkness)0

I know what you mean I am terrible at working out in the gym. I think it depends what kind of things you like doing in everyday life, for example I can't stand being indoors too long I get restless, and am quite claustrophobic. This is why I hate the gym.
I love running with my dogs, and I am trying to work up my cycling to a level where I can join a local cycling group (no-where near yet, need to be able to do about 60k in a couple of hours or something).
The point I'm trying to make is I don't know what kind of place you live in or whatever, but there may be something much more your style than machines or weights, and still just as effective. Hiking, climbing, martial arts, yoga, somethign in a group where you get to chat/socialise at the same time.
I go to classes at my gym just because I know it will make me stay to the end, wheras if I was on the machines I would just get off and leave early form boredom. I can't actually do the classes very well. Like I went to zumba the other day and I have absolutely no rythm whatsoever, but I still got a one hour workout and burnt lots of cals so who cares?
The other thing is it could be you work too hard for a couple of months, and don't give yourself enough days off, then this psychologically just stops you wanting to do anything? Maybe build up gradually starting with 2-3 days, to 5-6 times a week?0
