Stuck on Weight Loss

So I started the weight loss journey back in November last year, at the time I was 258lbs (43% body fat) and until mid May I got down to 211lbs. But ever since then, I have not been able to lose weight again! My weight fluctuates, so one week I lose 2lbs and the next I gain it all back up. I'm just nothing short of puzzled as to why this is happening.
My eating habits are so much better than what they used to be back then. In november, I used to just eat once a day (no more than 300cals/day) and now I eat 1000cals/day and exercise most days and that includes weight lifting 3x/week and cardio every day I hit the gym. Per the urge of my nutritionist who says I have a eating disorder (I'm beg to differ) and my body is in starvation mode.
By now, I would have expected a change at least a more noticiable change in my clothes, but nothing just one jean size so far. And even my body fat has not dropped by a lot. I'm at 40% right now.
I don't feel hunger and I don't feel tired or fatigued; I feel fine. So what it is going on!! I just don't know what to do.
I'm away from home and I'd like to come back looking more in shape (my goal is to go back home at the end of the year weighting 150lbs and have just about 20% body fat)

I tripled my caloric intake 3X (300-->1000) and that hasn't helped in the past 3 weeks.0

Don't give up hun, keep at it and it will move eventually. Try changing up your workout routine, and make sure your getting enough water. Sorry i'm not much help either but I understand the struggle!0

1000cals a day is not enough, especially with the exercise you are doing. It is a HUGE improvement to what you used to do and your body responded initially. Now it wants MORE!! Recalibrate your cals here on MFP, log your exercise and EAT what it recommends! Hang in there!0

strength training will make you gauin muscle mass. If you want to keep cardio and strength routine try mearsuring yourself. Stepping on the scale will make you think no results. I didnt lose weight went I did a "booty camp" but measuring one month my measrements decresed 6" everywhere. try that maybe it will help the mental aspect of being stuck. As for eating Im glad to decide to eat more. Load up on veggies. Veggies are fuel and fruit is hydration. If you eat a meal with fruit eat the fruit first. Fruit digest faster so you dont want it sitting on top of protien like meat meat is harder and longer to digest. (saw on dr oz) . And it makes sense. Dont give up.0

YOU ARE NOT A LOSER. Dont put that in your head. Love yourself is the most important regimine to lose weight. Keep that in mind0 -
That's another thing, I am not losing inches, either.
I thought about staying away from the scale, but the measuring tape doesn't give any encouragement either.0 -
Make sure that you aren't simply starving yourself to lose weight. Make sure that you have some lifting along with the cardio.
And give yourself some time off from lifting to recover. I'd been stuck at about 22 lbs lost for three weeks where I would bounce between 20 and 22 lbs lost even though I was right at my calorie goal and I was working out. I developed Bursitis in my shoulder so I quit lifting for a week and I'm 24.5 lbs down as of this morning.
I also wanted that the "eat more!" mantra may not apply to everyone that has flatlined on their weight loss. Someone who has dropped a dramatic amount of weight should probably rerun the goal calculator on MFP. They may find out that they should be eating less.0 -
Unfortunately our bodies seem to react poorly to a very large defict and lot's of activity.

Whilst you have done well and increased quite a lot, you are probably still not getting enough nutrition on 1000.
Work out your actual TDEE, take a defict from there, then increasing gradually towards it, just 100 extra a week, and see how that goes.

Don't talk like that! I'm discouraged too.. I know it sucks, but you just have to keep pushing forward, don't focus so much on the scale weight, do you feel better (stronger, healthier, happier) than you were when you began? You proved you can do it since you've already lost some weight. Keep at it, your not only trying to loose weight but make a healthier lifestyle, a healthier happier you. Keep your head up, it took time to put the weight on, it will take time to come off. add me if you like and we can support each other0 -

I know it sucks, but you just have to keep pushing forward, don't focus so much on the scale weight, do you feel better (stronger, healthier, happier) than you were when you began? Thanks to the weight lifting, yes I feel stronger. Healthier? I feel I'm still working on it and getting better at it.
But happier? No way, the stalled loss just makes me feel more stressed out and fustrated than ever. It's pretty much all I think about lately. When all of this started, it was just because "what the hell, why not lose? If I lose great, if I don't that's ok"0 -
Try that again.
You still need to eat more. You're not providing your body with the fuel it needs to function. Start eating a little more and the weight should start coming off again.

I get stuck alot... and every time if I finally stop overanalyzing and up my cals, I drop weight. It sounds like you work out alot, I can't see how 1000 cals would possibly be enough. All of my MFP friends who are in amazing shape would say the same thing, because they've said it to me. Don't give up, just keep changing it up until something works!0

And I try not to overanalyze my calories. I try to get to that 1200 net calories/day.
My focus now has shifted to adding more exercise to my daily routine. I just can't seem to figure out my body, yet. It's extremely frustrating.0 -
Something to consider is that once your body loses alot of weight...it needs time to adjust. My daughter was an inspiration to me when she lost 40 lbs to enter into the Air Force. I "know" what I am supposed to do to lose weight... just am not as diciplined as I need to be. Evidently, I did well as a "coach" as she lost that weight between November, 2011 thru May, 2012 when she went into the military.
What I really learned from watching her is that there are a lot of changes that are occuring WITHIN your body that may not translate to the outside immediately. She seemed reach "plateaus"...however, it was just her body changing and adjusting to the new weight.....at those points, I just reminded her that you can't eat 1200 calories and workout every day and not lose weight. Just keep going... keep going. Eventually, the weight began to come down again everytime (eventually, at one point she had a two month stall). Although this doesn't always happen on our time schedule, it does happen. She has continued to lose weight while in basic training... which she completes in two weeks!! I can't wait to see her...
Also, I am going to school to become a school psychologist... in one of my classes, I had to use behavior modification to create a new behavior... I decided to teach my dog to roll over. As I worked through the process of rewarding for behavior, I did not see any changes....for the ENTIRE TIME. As a matter of fact, I was preparing to let my instructor know that I had not been successful at this task. Perhaps it was too big of an undertaking in the time frame we had to complete this in (two weeks). It looked to me like she would need a year to get this new behavior. However, the NEXT DAY, she began to roll over!! What did I learn from this... perhaps the most significant thing I got from that class.....
IT MAY NOT LOOK LIKE IT'S WORKING...BUT IT IS... AND WE MAY ALWAYS QUIT BEFORE IT ACTUALLY SHOWS ON THE OUTSIDE. Had I quit working with Pheobe on that day, thinking that she was not learning it because there was no outward appearance of change... I would have had to start completely over in order to get back where I was whenever I decided to try again. However, persistence paid off, ONE DAY LATER. She WAS changing inside, just as you are. If you are being honest with yourself about what you are eating and your exercising...then it WILL work.
I understand your feelings of failure... weight loss is sooo frustrating. My daughter expressed many of those same emotions while trying to reach her goals of weight loss. While helping her, I was able to see how I self sabatoge myself with those same defeating attitudes. Of course, she is my daughter, and my job was to assist her in getting past those moments... I reminded her to stop looking at it like she was failing when she didn't see that scale move down... each work out, each day of eating the right number of calories, and the weight loss she had achieved already were her successes and that is where one must focus when undertaking difficult challenges.
Again, it's when we give up... decide this doesn't work.. fall off the wagon...then have to start over....
Had we just encouraged ourselves and given it just one more day.... perhaps that was THE day that scale was going to begin to move down....and we gave up on ourselves just before the pay off.
In my humble opinion: Make conscious decisions each day.... give yourself a reward for reaching your daily eating goals and your daily exercise goals.... perhaps when they add up for the week you get a pedicure, message, or something fab that will excite you. Stop focusing on external weight loss so that you stop being mean to yourself with the words you say... (words we would never say to someone else). Trust your body and trust the process. (I know it's hard because this is probably not your first try to lose weight)... however, you have done so well through May... let your body catch up to the hard work you have done. Eat every four hours to keep your blood sugar level and fuel your body with food that will create health for your cells, skin and organs. Most importantly... LOVE yourself... your body is not failing you because of the size it is...consider all that it allows you to experience each day. In my case, the ability to get up everyday, spend time with my family and friends, laugh, exercise because I choose to (even though I may have chosen to fuel it in correctly....it still goes!)... whatever, you DO in life that makes it FUN that is what your BODY is allowing you to do.. no matter if it fits into a size 2 or a size 22, it is loving you, you must love it back and thank it every day for all that it allows you to experience on this earth.
Weight loss is a journey... a cumulation of choices we make everyday.... but it is not the end all... DAILY HAPPINESS is what the real goal is... what can you do TODAY...RIGHT NOW... that will make you smile?
Love your body, soul and spirit... these things allow us to live and experience this amazing, abundant world.
Please just disregard if none of this helps you... but I want to thank you for helping me. You have made me put into words things that I needed to remind myself of as I move forward on my own weight loss journey... so thank you for being an inspiration to me. Have a beautiful day full of joy!0 -

Don't give up on yourself... you have lost so much already and clearly have figured out what works for you... let your body adjust, it will come off... YOU HAVE THIS NAILED! Keep going... believe in yourself and you will see that the scale will make the changes. My daughter had the exact same thing happen with less weight loss. (it is always easier to see progress in others which is why I keep referring to her).

I just read Why We Get Fat (interesting book) and have also done a bunch of recent scientific reading on long term weight loss.
Most people who plateau start not sticking to their diets in many small ways because it's hard to maintain. Think hard if you're doing that. You ARE maintaining (not gaining), which is excellent. But maybe you're falling back into older habits?
Why We Get Fat argues that you need to look hard at what you're eating because insulin is what determines whether fat is stored or released by your fat cells and whether or not your muscles can use released fats other than carbs. If you're not hungry (good) that means you are probably eating a pretty good diet and things are pretty balanced.
What that book would recommend is to make sure you are eating foods that don't spike your blood sugar to keep insulin levels low and steady. This will release stored fat between meals. Foods you want to eat are low in carbs and foods that have UNPROCESSED carbs. So eat more protein and fat (surprise) and fewer carbs.
Ideal long term lifetime is 35-40% calories from carbs. You'll lose faster lower, but it will make you crazy trying to do it.
My friend who is a diet researcher basically summarizes this as avoiding anything white - no sugar, bread, rice, potatoes, or (especially) beer. (Okay, that last one isn't white.)
Even instant oatmeal and soft whole wheat bread will spike your insulin, whereas old fashioned oats and real dark brown bread won't.

I'm sorry but if you were eating only 300 cals per day then your nutritionist (who knows this stuff) is absolutely right about being in starvation mode. Sure you lost some weight at first but you probably lost muscle too and your metabolism has slowed down to protect your body. You need to fuel your body properly. The 40/30/30 plan is a good idea and you shouldn't go below 1200 cals per day. You might gain while your body rights it's systems from being starved but will be better in the long run.0 -
