"Runner's high" - when do you get it?

I really "WANT" to love running... and I love the way I feel just before I run, after I run and most of the rest of the day... but I still HATE it, with a capital "H" while I am running.

I think I remember liking it 25 years ago, for the brief time I ran but I can't seem to find that lost love.

So for now I make myself run, hoping desperately with each mile that it will magically become fun again...

so for you runners that actually do love it and get the runner's high- do you get it during the run or is it just the post run feeling?

I have only been running again for a few months and go 3-4 miles, every other day.

thanks!

While I'm running, I love how strong my legs feel. I feel like I can go forever! I also love how healthy my lungs feel and I'm still amazed at what my body can do. I definitely get a high while running and then I'm in an awesome mood for the rest of the day. I love it! :)

I get it during the run, but it's somethng that comes for me after months of training if I'm coming back after time off. basically I need to be in shape enough that there's such a thing as an easy run for me. For instance, omce I've gotten into shape to where I can do a hard run of 10 miles at a nine minute pace, doing a five miler at a 9.5 pace feels fantastic, truly enjoyable.

I like it much more when I practice good form and am listening to good music while I run. Running with my two dogs also helps motivate me since they both seem so happy when they are out. Their enthusiasm can be contagious.

I love how i feel after running, but in this heat, running itself is a pain... I'll just have to suck it up and make myself get up earlier... now running at 5°C is truly enjoyable....

Thanks all, the fact that most of you get it during the run leaves me hopeful that I'll get there with time and mileage. Until then, I'll motor on in this heat and humidity, longing for that day!
