HRM - want to buy one

I think that I would benefit from a HRM - more accurate calorie burn and fitness tracking.
However there are soooo many out there - can someone recommend me one that's not a big faff? I don't want anything complicated, just HR and calorie tracking. I thought about using my iphone for it but the battery life is terrible.
Also, chest strap or wireless model? I've heard the wireless ones are not as accurate?
I'm UK based by the way, so would need to be models that are available here. Not got a huge budget either to start with, certainly can't go over £100 - OH is complaining about me kitting out and getting too into my training already!

Before deciding on which HRM may be best for you give some thought as to how you want to use it and what (if any) additional information you may want to log.
For example if you're a runner or cyclist you may also want to track distances, pace/speed, elevation etc in which case something along the lines of a Garmin Forerunner may be your best option (a little more than you had budgeted for but ultimately less expensive than buying one thing only to replace it later with something else)
If you're looking for something to track time, heart rate and calories burned one of the Polar FT models will probably do the trick.
As an aside, I've been following a number of threads on the Garmin forums (fora?) and a number of people have commented on lower caloric burns being recorded by Garmin units compared to Polar models the suggestion being that Polar may over-estimate the calories burned during certain activities as they measure only heart rate & time whereas the Garmins also can track other variables such as distance, pace and elevation.0 -
if you want HRM go with Polar.
If you want a GPS that does somewhat of a HRM, go with garmin0 -
I have the Polar FT7.
Love it - I did a lot of reading before I decided on that and have to say it was the right choice.0 -

Well I have been having a look at the models online and am starting to think I might be better saving for something that does a bit more, it would mainly be used for cycling, in which case tracking distance, pace and elevation would be useful.0
