Stinky, foul mood....

It's day 6 and I've been doing really well. But this AM, oh boy, was I in a stinker of a mood. We're talking near-strop. No particular reason - just grumpy grumpy grumpy. Not very nice for the other half or the 4 y.o.
I still went for my (short) run, but felt horrible. No real energy to speak off and the 20 min run which usually feels like a "Rocky achievement" for me, just felt horrible.
During those first 5 days, I've cut out pasta, bread, rice, potatoes etc. - the starchy carbs. Maybe that's it? (Pls don't tell me to eat carbs - I'm cutting them until I can run a decent distance which is 5 km - and until I've started shedding some of the excess weight. Once I start (back) on pasta and bread, it's usually game over for me. I need to establish a fruit and veg routine really firmly first).
Maybe I just had a bad nights sleep? Maybe it's the weather? Who knows? But it feels wretched!
I'm still sticking with it today (in spite of just wanting a huge sandwich, chocolate, crisps and some low-quality television - see, proper grump on ) and will take a long walk w. the dog later to clear my head (and earn some more exercise points).
But any encouragement to get me thru today would be great - or just fellow grumpers saying that this is normal would be equally helpful.

crappy days happen....over come it
dwelling on it isnt the answer0 -
Meh, I'm in a foul mood everyday...welcome to my world.....people will get used to it :laugh:0

I cut out grains and starchy carbs awhile ago because my tummy doesn't like them.
The first few days are the worst (I felt like the first week), so yes, it should get better. At least, that's my experience. But there's always bad days and you just have to deal. You're normal. It'll pass. Just don't sit down to the sandwich and TV and then you can feel good about that.
Who needs TV anyway?0 -
I frequently have days like this ha! I was in a foul mood when i was exercising this morning, I was doing a Home DVD and I was cross with the people doing the DVD, like it was their fault i was in a bad mood!
Apparently primrose oil is supposed to be good for when you are feeling irritable or moody..other than that I usually reach for the wine ha! which is really bad advice, so don't listen to me! Hope you feel a bit better soon x0 -
we all have these days..i had one on Monday!
spent 2hrs in the gym doing fitness classes where all the women have better bodies and the mirrors make you look fatter then you actually are..got home, tea wasnt ready so had a strop at the husband, made a cup of tea and took myself off upstairs for a bath and bed.
i was fine at work, so i guess its just one of those things...just try and stay focused and positive, accept it as bad day and keep plodding on..these days will leave as quickly as they arrived.0 -
It may well be the carb reduction. It's a bit like coming off coffee. It'll pass. Just work through it. :flowerforyou:0

If you're running carbs are your friend.........
Carbs are also associated with mood. http://web.mit.edu/newsoffice/2004/carbs.html0 -
I can almost 100% correlate my stinky moods to having had something with high sugar or flour content the day before. I think it is a reaction to craving more. When I stay away from such foods my stinking thinking goes away, I don't judge others or myself.
Wishing you a better day.0 -
Switch to Brown Rice, Whole Wheat or Multigrain Breads, and don't skip the potatoes (there is nothing wrong with a baked potato once a week and if you still have issue with that then switch to Sweet Potatoes... I have never ate less than 240 grams of carbs a day (currently eating 320-340 grams a day) and have/still am losing weight.. Unless you have a medical condition that would cause you to go low carb. You have to have fuel to do your workouts or your going to feel sluggish and weak... Carbs are an essential for energy... I agree with you cutting the enriched flour (white carbs) you just need to sub in the healthier options and you are going to have to work on you motivation, I have been on my own personal journey alittle over 1120 days now and I would have never made it that far had I not focus in on each and every day. Do everything you can to make today a success and when you go to bed and lay your head on the pillow have no regrets.. Then get up and do it all over again tomorrow.... Best of Luck.....0

I just cut out all sugar and completely empathize. I have no bread pasta chips milk dairy sugar cereal or even fruit. I eat all the veggies I want and lean meat. Day 2 was my roughest day and I spent it holed in my room watching TV. Today j am feeling pretty good. This will pass. Good work on making decisions for what's right for your body. I know lots are going to tell you to add back the carbs. I say do what you know works for you. Good luck!0

I was in a foul mood myself yesterday. I call it the "dungeon of despair." And sometimes it's ok to be in it!0

Thanks, guys! I'm going to grit my teeth and get through today, grumpy or not.
If mood stays consistently low, I might start on some carbs next week on "running days".
Could probably have been a grump-day anyways - with or without the "diet", so will give it a few days, see if it lifts and 'till then "get on with it" (Alternatively seems to be to just thoroughly keep being grumpy and that only makes me more miserable and those around me too).
Onwards and upwards - hey-ho.0 -
Ed - thanks for your post. It makes total sense re. complex carbs etc. - And I will be adding some in. I just need to go "cold turkey" for 3-4 weeks first to kick-start things and get out of the habit of eating carbs (whether white or complex) - as it's always been a pitfall for me.
Once the runs start getting more serious (rather than they are currently: just getting into the habit of actually making my body run), I know that brown rice, a baked potato or indeed the sweet potatoes are my friend. I'm deffo not an "Atkins Addict" in that respect.
More importantly, I spotted your weight loss!!!! 310 lbs!!!!??? That is an absolutely amazing and incredible result. I'm thoroughly impressed and in awe! Well done just doesn't cut it, but seriously: Well Done!!!!!0 -
Well, if you ate a massive sandwich/fries/whatever, chances are you'd be in an even worse mood, and then when you decided to do this again you'd have to go right back to the start. Just weather the storm and look forward to the sunshine and calm waters at the other end (cliche I know).0
