How much water is too much

Ok so im drinking 4 to 5 bottles of water a day. I think thats about 8 cups of water. So my coworker told me shouldn't drink so much water because i might retain it. Is that true? I dont know if my body holds alot of water, so how would I know? And how much water is too much water? Can you over do it?

The more water you drink the more willing your body is to get rid of what you have (from what I know).

You can overdo it with water but it takes crazy amounts in a short period of time to do that.

I normally drink a minimum of two 1.5L bottles of water a day if not more especially since it's so hot out these days.

Trainers recommend a gallon a day, you're fine. Of course if you don't feel well drinking so much, that's for you & your doctor, but I personally hit 8-12 x 8oz a day.
  • Your body won't retain water unless you're eating high-sodium foods or if you don't drink enough water. The more water you drink, the less you'll retain.

The SOLUTION to POLLUTION is DILUTION!

Strive to pee clear 10-15 times a day.

I usually drink a little less than 1.5 liters, but I think I might retain it because I don't pee very much !
I think you should drink what you feel confortable with !

The amount of water you drink has nothing to do with water retention (sodium, sugar, strenuous exercise and hormonal changes associated with your menstrual cycle do).

The only risk associated with drinking too much water is hyponatremia which is basically an electrolyte imbalance caused by consuming too much water (it is rare but can be fatal) but you have to drink a lot of water over a long period of time to worry about it (it's usually more of a potential problem for endurance athletes as they also lose a lot of sodium through perspiration). The most likely negative consequence may be frequent trips to the loo.

It is virtually impossible to drink too much. I mean you can but your would really have to try hard. I drink about 2 gallons a day!

I drink about 10 16.9 oz bottles of water a day. By increasing my water, I find that my body doesn't retain water as it used to when I was drinking under 8 glasses of water a day. Now I drink between 16-20 glasses of water a day, and I am fine. The only thing is everytime I turn around I have to go to the bathroom, but hey I just look at it as exercise. (all the running back and forth) lol

I have always had a "water appetite"... I can easily drink 160+ oz every day of plain water. I'm fine... still alive, and no water retention issues.

I drink about 1.5-2L a day. I look at my wee and if it is pale yellow then I am hydrated enough.

But to answer your question .. I don't think you can ever drink too much water. Everybody is different and some people drink more than others. So not one rule will apply to everyone.

I drink about 2 gallons of water a day, as long as you don't chug it and drink too much too fast there is nothing unhealthy about drinking alot of water. the more water I drink the faster I lose weight

I put lemon slices in my water to add some flavor. Helps me to meet my goal of 8 glasses a day.

drinking water IS great. I drink on average of 12-16 glasses per day ( my water bottle holds 4 glasses) with the full approval of my urologist. If you get bored with plain water, add some crystal light ( I put 1pk in 32oz), a few drops of mio, or even some sliced orange/lemon/lime. You can also buy packets of juice crystals called TrueLemon, TrueLime, TrueOrange....
  • I drink a lot of unsweet iced tea. Can I use that instead of water?

Unless your co-worker is a Dr, they are full of ****! I asked my urologist today his opinion on the whole 64oz of fluid a day thing. He said that for every person he sees who drinks too much water, he sees a thousand people who are chronically dehydrated. He also he says that he fully endorses me drinking as much water as I care to. Today's visit was to get the results of my 24hr urine collection I did in June--the day I did it, I drank obscene amounts of water, like 5+qts. He was loving it!
  • You can never drink too much water.
