Running AND Insanity??

ADVICE?! So I have a 5K that I'm doing this weekend, and it's not a super big deal or anything, but it's in my hometown, and I have a feeling that a lot of people I know are going to be running it. Sooo obviously I want to do really well. Not only to show off a little :p but also because I'd really like to get a PR. So I'm wondering if I should take a few days off from Insanity and let my body rest with some easy runs for the next couple days or continue with Insanity...? Insanity isn't making me so sore that I can't move, but it is making me stiff, and as I can see from this mornings run, it's slowing me down for right now because it took quite a bit of effort to make a 10:16 pace. I'd looove to make sub 26mins but I don't think I could do it with Insanity this week... help! What would you do?!

My 2 cents - since it is something that you would like to do well at, and you have a goal in mind, I would back off the insanity... You are still exercising so all is good :)

If it were me, and this is totally shallow, but I would stop Insanity to "up" my time running. Sometimes showing off in a hometown takes presidence over other things. Once the race is done and you did kick-@ss timing, then you can go back to Insanity

As others have said, I would back off Insanity for a few days as well! I am training for 2 half marathons (one in September and one in October) aside from running 3-4 days per week I am also doing Insanity AND Insanity Asylum mixed in with some of my other workouts. Asylum has definitely helped with my endurance but there are some days where I do asylum and then the next day I have to run and even though Im able to get through my run, my muscles feel tight and stiff. So I would definitely back off of the Insanity a few days before your race just to make sure your muscles are rested, especially if you are looking to PR!!!

I really appreciate everyone's input! Backing off Insanity is what I was leaning towards anyway. I also posted this on Dailymile.com and that's what my friends there have said too!

And I don't think it's shallow to want to blow the hometown away... :p

I'm only in week 2 of Insanity, and week 6 of Couch to 5k, but the combo is having a noticeable impact on my legs and essentially making it impossible for them to fully recover from preceding workouts. By last Saturday (Insanity week 1, day 6, following a morning run and after work Insanity on Friday) the 100% that I could give was really about 80% of what I would be capable of with adequate recovery.

I'm running a Warrior Dash this Sunday, up a fricking ski hill, and I'll be post-poning Saturday and possibly Friday's Insanity workouts until next week.

It's not like you're post-poning the workouts to slack off, and hitting a great 5k time will just send you back into Insanity next week feeling like a boss.

    Good luck. :)
