I'm not a big medication guy, but if it helps people reach a goal then every little bit of support helps. The only problem with weight loss drugs in general is the lack of support once a person gets to a maintenance level which a pill in a bottle cannot provide.

That being said, considering the FDA is requiring the manufacturer to conduct long-term heart safety studies I would probably shy away from any of these medications for a few years...and that would be my response if I was a medication guy.

    My thoughts...

    1. Combination of older drugs = nothing new
    2. Things these drugs do can be done through behavior anyway

Basically, it suppresses hunger (there are VERY low calorie drinks that do this already) and also makes you feel more satiated after eating (protein and fiber already do this too)

Overall, weight loss is about controlling yourself. If you literally lose control of your body and gorge yourself, then maybe this will work. But, pretty much everyone actively chooses to eat. Its not something that is done without our knowledge or consent. We pick up food, we chew it, we swallow it. NONE of that is involuntary.

If one HAS to rely on these sort of things to aid weight loss, then they will have to take the pill their ENTIRE lives or regain the weight.

    Lastly...

Maximum of 11% weight loss over a year? The "results" are pretty crappy if you ask me.

I didn't think you were. :) But it is a relevant topic and definitely worth discussing! :)
