Hello, my name is Jason
I found this program over a year ago when i was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease, it seemed perfect to keep track of my sodium intake, to combat Meniere’s diet is the front line defense and sodium intake is key. I soon found out that just by watching my sodium I was losing weight, I started at 375# over a year later I am 294#, I was down in the 270’s but you know how weight loss goes, you get comfortable and complacent. Last night I made up my mind to drop 20#’s this all stemmed from noticing my boys who are 12 and 13 had gained a lot of weight from this time last year, they have always been on the bigger side but never fat, well on the charts they would have been considered fat but they were more ‘Husky’ that all out fat. I weighed my 13 yr old and I couldn’t believe he was 177#’s at 5’ 1-1/2”. I instantly felt sick, knowing what was in store for him with school coming up. I have the app installed on their phones now and a chart made out we are going to see if in 5 weeks we can drop 20 #’s. My wife is along for the ride as well, I hope to accomplish this by not focusing on so much what they eat, rather how much they eat, and how active we are.. they don’t snack much, but my wife has a huge addiction to Mountain Dew, thankfully I do not drink any soda pop, I noticed the boys must be drinking a lot more of that than I had thought, we will cut that out for sure, and one serving at meals instead of going back for more. I will eventually introduce better meals but for now we will just concentrate on the plan I have. We already eat fairly decent because of my Meniere’s disease; we do not eat processed foods or eat out, my personal problem is I won’t eat all day then I will have a large supper, I know I have to at least turn that around, but better yet I will eat smaller meals throughout the day. So any advice on keeping my kids involved without beating them down in the process?. I am hoping to set small individual goals, and not focus on the 20 #’s, but my 13 yr old is so sensitive I have to be so careful how I motivate and what I say to him, I told him last night it’s my job as their father to lead by example and if I were to let him continue in his ways I would be hurting him .. I hope he gets that!

Wish us luck -Jason

    Hi Jason.
Another Jason here. While I can't comment on your condition or the nutritional requirements, it sounds like you've identified some core issues that are contributing. Complacency definitely got me in a not great place and that knowing, admitting and combating that is going to be a huge tool in continuing your journey.
As for you boys and motivating: While my own daughter is only two, my wife and I have had similar concerns. We each were bigger kids and got involved in sports in jr and high school and both want to spare her going through that stage if at all possible. So we are trying to keep a more active lifestyle with her, walks, bike rides etc which is always challenging. lol. We also try to involve her with dinner making, letting her put veggies in the salad, toss it etc to try and build some fundamentals. I also think you are on the right track with the soda pop, loaded with so much sugar. So I guess what I'm trying to say is for your boys I think its important to make whatever changes you are doing fun, engaging and interesting so that it is a reward for being healthy rather than being a punishment which could potentially shut them down to the process.

Hopefully my rambling makes sense and or helps. =)
And if you need a friend in your journey please don't hesitate to send a request my way.
