Help! I'm looking for an idea for a birthday gift for my niece who is turning 18. She will be starting college in the fall. I'm clueless in this area, so I thought you all may be able to help. Looking to spend in the $50ish range. The more specific you can be, the better! Thanks everyone!!

A gift card to target/bed bath so she can buy stuff for the dorm room.

or make a little essiantals college basket with a shower caddy, a sponge, nice body wash, etc.
  • Ipod shuffle, Something for her dorm or apartment? watch? What kind of stuff is she into?

    I second the college stuff!

You can always give her a basket with some utensils/cups/bowls, EasyMac, Ramen noodles, granola bars...

has she dropped any hints as to what she would like ? personally I hate it when people buy me items, often it's something I don't need or won't ever wear. what I appreciate is the sentimental things. ao perhaps get her a bracelet/necklace etc and get something engraved in it ? it really depends on her personality :)

i totally forgot about the college part...

In that case i suggest a gift card to JYSK -or whatever its called- or other places like that

Some girls/people like picking out their own things lol
  • I think the idea of like a college basket with a few things in it she might need when she goes, is a great idea!

A gift card to the college bookstore? A gift card for gas if she is bringing her car to college? Honestly at this point in her life, cash and gift cards would probably be the biggest help as she transitions into college life.

Gift baskets are always a great gift. Fill it with beauty products, a magazine/book, some college supplies, a small gift card to a fast food place, keychain, bracelet, etc. Just small stuff than can be found cheap and used anytime!

These are great gift ideas. I think the shower caddy one sounds great. She lives in North Carolina and we are in Ohio so I don't see her enough to intimately know her likes and dislikes. I usually end up doing gift cards.

Are you all familiar with this website: http://www.modcloth.com/

i was thinking of a gift card from there, but I don't want to put her in a position where she has to spend more of her own money...

Buy her clothes or a ready wrapped gift from Lush if she likes bath products. Some of them only cost a fiver, you can't go wrong with Lush.

You could also call up her mom and see if she knows any better what to get her.

The mod cloth is cute.. and if it's something she likes the go for it!

Since she's going away for school - id make up a basket. Laundry basket, some towels, girly bath stuff and some rolls of quarters. I never had quarters when I needed them

Just give her the $50 and let her buy something herself.
