Couponing?

Just curious - are there any MFP friends that are into couponing? I've never gotten into it, but I know some people can be very crafty at getting things at the store for super cheap. Since being nutritious is more expensive than eating junk food, has anyone thought about getting into it?

I used to be very into it....but not so much anymore. I just forget to get out the coupons when I get to the store. I do save the ones that I get at checkout...and they take up space on my counter while I'm grocery shopping. :grumble:

it's not a whole lot of work but it's all about preparation and remembering to take them. But heck my first time around I saved 30% on my grocery bill easy.

ME..I am a coupon girl. I have two binders full. I save us a ton of money. I am lucky to live in a state where I can even sometimes have coupons for meat and chicken (hate fish but there is coupons for that too) I haven't paid for mustard, mayo, ketchup, toothpaste and deodorant in a long time.. :)

I used to be into couponing, but the only things that ever have coupons are crap food. It's not worth my time to wade through coupons for hamburger helper and sugar cereal to find that one magic coupon for the thing I actually buy. I want some veggie/fruit coupons!
  • I am called crazy for my couponing - ESPECIALLY becuase I am in Canada - and our coupon rules suck compared to the states.

I have a huge binder - filled with everything I dont need to Most things I do need.
If I get it free - I get it and if I dont need it give it to someone who does.

I average a 25%-50% savings, sometimes more on most shopping trips with my coupons.

I also ALWAYS price match as well! No point in using a .50cents off coupon on a $2.50 item and Paying $2, if another store has that item on for $1.75. Price match and coupon would equal $1.25 !

I coupon, and have signed up for the loyality programs at the stores and gas stations I shop at. I wouldn't be able to get all I do if I didn't. One store I shop at Kroger for every 100 dollars I get 10 cents off in gas. Another grocery store for every 50 dollars I get 25 cents off gas. So between the two it pretty much covers my husbands gas for the month. Between the two stores, coupons, and aldi and save a lot I get our grocery's. Maybe not everything I want every month but getting better. You can even print them out on coupon.com
  • Right here! One great site is RecycleBank.com. Once you sign up, you can earn points by inviting other friends and taking quick easy quizzes. If you buy Kashi products that have the RecycleBank stamp, you can enter the code from the box into the website and easily earn points that way. Plus, you are guaranteed to earn 5 points a day by simply clicking a "Pledge" button on their site. They have other ways to earn points listed on their website. With the points you accumulate, you can get coupons, discounts, and even some freebies. I was able to score a free pair of glasses through this website, and save money on Kashi cereal. Hope this helps!

I'm a couponer! There are definitely ways to get coupons for healthy food. I have coupons for earthbound farms, fresh express, dole salad, greek yogurt, eggs, soy milk and tons of others in my binder! I always save at least 50% at the store. It is often 75% or more. Last month we spent under $100 to feed a family of three!
  • I LOVE COUPONS!!!! I have a coupon holder with categories. I have really saved a TON of $ couponing. I LOVE A GREAT DEAL!!!! Feel free to add me! ;)

I love Kashi, and my work sometimes stocks their snacks! (We get free food at work; I've gained 30lbs since starting here 1 year ago.) I wonder if I can enter the codes from my free kashi snacks to get points too? :) Thanks for the info, very helpful!
  • Other than online, where does everyone find so many coupons to fill binders?

I match up sales & promotions to coupons available and buy in cycles when the prices are lowest (keep a pantry and stocked freezer). I also make use of NBPR rebates ("no beer purchase required") to save money on things like produce, meat and seafood (i am always on the lookout for new NBPR rebate forms!). I save between 30 and 50% regularly. I also grow my own veggies in my organic garden, which also helps cut food expenses. A LOT of coupons are for crap, but if you watch closely, you can get good deals on healthy foods too.

NBPR = "No Beer Purchase Required"

Look for rebate forms on/near the beer displays... they are often something like "$10 back on purchase of X beer and $15+ of chicken and/or meat.." then says in small print No Beer Purchase Required in [lists the states].... I am in NY and more often than not, no actual beer purchase is required to do the rebate, so you only need to make the non-beer purchase (in this case, makes your $15 meat purchase only $5 in the long-run).

These NBPR rebates come out for all sorts of things: produce, ice, seafood, meat, deli items, "grocery", snacks, etc etc... Do a visual scan of the beer displays/coolers every time you're in the store to find forms (or get on Ebay) and look at the fine print. You can save $$ on some of the basics

    Hope that helps!
