I need to tone the thighs and butt area up badly. What do you think is the the best exercise? I thought cycling would be a good one but doesn't that make that area bigger?

    +1 to Lunges and squats.

Deadlifts are pretty close to magic as well.

    ^^ Ditto

With heavy weights. If you're sore the next day, you know you lifted heavy enough. I've been doing this for years and I am still sore the day after a hard core leg workout.

I heard amazing results from Brazil Butt lift... but lunges, squates work. I have the same areas that need toning, I"m in week6 of P90X and can tell a difference in my butt/thighs by doing everyday exercises.
  • Jillian Michaels killer bum and thighs is good as well mixed in with other exercises

Squats, lunges, dead lifts. I've also heard running is great. I'm working on this area myself.
Oh, and I have also heard that the Brazil Butt Lift is amazing too!

Heavy weights. My gym sucks as far as free weights go, so I do leg press and glute press and back extension instead of squats and deadlifts, but... OMG, what a difference!

I took up running in December 2010, started a body weight and 5 lb. dumbbell routine in January 2011, and started heavy lifting in July 2011.

A lot of people seem to think running is good, but I HATE to run. When your overweight that jiggling while you run is uncomfortable and actually hurts sometimes. Maybe I'm not running right....lol.

Wondered if P90X was any good. I've heard it is but very hard.

Ive been running for about 2 years now and my thighs are pretty much solid and no fat in my buttocks or very little, I got saggy skin on my butt. As far as P90X do what you can they have variations of pretty much all the routines. Or check out the P90 program that is not as intense. I was about 260 when I started running started out on the treadmill then moved to running outside about year ago I love it. It was hard first starting out but once you get to that point its all over. The first few weeks were very difficult to get motivated for me anyways but it is well worth it. I also do the starimaster for 45minutes once or twice a week.

Trish, P90X is not good, it's GREAT!!! :) I wasn't over weight when I started P90X, mainly did it to tone, and that's what I got! I'm in round 2 of P0X, you should give it a shot! Promis you'll see results, will be hard but worth it!!

    Wow Lorina!!! Awesome results!!
OP, I dont know about you but lifting is something I've always wanted to do, just scared or rather, embarrassed, of walking into the man cave clueless. There's some scary people in there :)
But heavy lifting is the way to go, of course, I'm going by all of these fabulous before and after pics posted on MFP.

Squats, lunges, dead lifts & running is great (lifting heavy is defently the way to go)

Well, there's nothing left to cover after this. The trifecta of lower body development. So, yeah it's going to be hot outside today. Drink plenty of water.
