Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead Movie and/or Forks Over Knives

Has anyone else watched this movie? If will really INSPIRE you! You can watch it for free. I watched it yesterday and it inspired me to buy a juicer for health reasons. I also bought the book Forks Over Knives book (I just ordered the DVD) it's about a plant based diet and has recipes in it. I had NO IDEA how you can reverse the things that are wrong with you health wise. My choloresteral was borderline and I was put on medicine (after telling the doctor that I woudn't take it for two years, I gave in) and I had a TERRIBLE allergic reaction to it. So, I am going to eat Vegan and see if it makes a difference in my health and my heart.

I've watched both and they really changed the way I eat. I went vegan for six months and then failed but now I'm back on track to being fully vegan again. When I choose foods to eat I choose whole REAL foods that help my health rather than processed. It's actually a lot easier and cheaper eating this way. A banana is a whole lot cheaper than a little bag of chips I'm glad those documentaries inspired you too, it makes you rethink what you are putting into your body.0

I loved both films, and I've seen FOK multiple times. Whenever I feel like I'm slipping into eating bad foods again, I sit myself down and watch FOK again, usually while doing some upper arm free weight exercises. It always helps me bounce back. I bought a copy of FOK for my dad for Christmas and he also watches it often.
My dad adopted a low-fat vegan diet a couple of years ago and has had great results lowering his weight, cholesterol, blood pressure (getting off some of his medications!), and returning from the brink of developing type 2 diabetes. So proud of him!

I just watched Forks Over Knives - it came in the mail. I can't believe the scientific studies point to a meat and dairy free diet for heart health and particularly cancer. I also learned that you can actually reduce your risk and reverse the problems as well! Thank you for your recommendation I will watch that movie as well!0

I have watched both and I bought a juicer. I never really liked much of the veg juice and never did a juice fast but I did all veg/fruit and juice for 5 days following a plan on the jointhereboot site.
I am a work in progress when it comes to plant based eating, it's not a hard and fast rule for me but I do prefer to NOT eat animal products, I feel better. My cholesterol dropped from 215 to 169 in 6 months (good cholesterol went up 5 pts), blood pressure dropped and glucose fell from 107 to 79. I'm a fan but it can be a challenge when the family doesn't want to eat that way.

Thank you for all the information! I can tell you it's onlly been four days and I feel better already. I have more energy! I just purchased the Omnivore's Dillema on Amazon to read tihs weekend and yesterday my cookbook The Kind Diet came in the mail. My sister-in-law is Vegan and she made a recipe from that cookbook while she was here visiting called Sweet Potato and Lentil Stew. It was amazing. I made that Sunday and my husband liked it. My daughter doesn't like sweet pottoes though.. My sister-in-law has also given me some advice as well particularly that it's good to take a B-12 if you are Vegan. The interesting thing is I have NOT had any food cravings at all. My juicer should be here soon, too and I'm looking forward to making my juice, too! I know that people are going to not understand but I'm not worried too much about that. To each his own. I'm just going to do what is best for me. Have a great day everyone!0

I just finished watching this movie today actually and I am very inspired by it! I already knew of the benefits of having a plant based diet, and how it can cure many diseases, after reading "The China Study" which has a similar concept as the movie. But I decided that I'm going to try the juice cleanse diet for a week sometime, and if I can keep going for a week I would love to keep going for a month!0

Oh I know, I am not judging anyone! Of course. I used to eat meat - some form of protein in every meal (egg whites for breakfast with a slice of cheese), turkey sandwich for lunch, chicken for dinner. You're talking to a REAL meat lover, here. My husband and kids LOVE meat. I just am making the choice for myself and there is no judgment on anyone else. Honestly!0

Oops, I never answered your question, I have seen Sick and Nearly Dead, yes it was inspiring; however, not enough for me to give up meat. Maybe because I've seen a lot of vegan's macrobiotics and vegetarians and nearly all of them had very bad grayish looking skin and brittle hair. I gotta see some glowing skin, and hair (Yes, I'm vain) for my interest to peak.
And yes, I've seen meat eaters with bad skin all, however,r their diet is crap and filled with bad stuff.0 -
I just recently watched both of these. Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead was more informative than inspiring for me. I suppose it would be an eye opener for those who don't like fresh produce or don't know how to eat healthy, but I have always loved and eaten my veggies. If it inspired me at all, it was to focus more on my micros than my macros and get my fruit/veggie intake even higher.
Forks Over Knives, on the other hand, I found to be very persuasive. I have gone vegetarian a few times in my life, and the movie made me entertain thoughts of being vegan. I could cut out cheese or milk without much pain, but I love my fish. :laugh: I could eat fish and veggies for the rest of my life. The documentary made me want to cut back on my cheese intake, and I have since switched back to almond milk.0 -
I have not seen the movie; however I have read a lot of books recently about given up animal products. Must state that our bodies are not set up to digest animal products. Also they talk about the hormones and steroids in food today; therefore I now drink almond milk, eat organic milk and chicken. Everything else is fruit, vegetables and ALL seafood. The main thing that I have given up is milk and beef. I must admit I do not feel as sluggish as I use too and there are some things I can't give up (the skim milk in my latte)0

After watching Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead.. I quit smoking my 2 packs a day, started including fresh juices/green smoothies into my diet, and started exercising more often. Haven't stopped. I say it inspired me0

I have to tell everyone, I have been eating vegan for over a week now and the weight is just falling off. Interesting thing is I feel like I'm actually eating a ton of food, I feel full and I don't have sugar ups and downs! I also found a Vegan crockpot cookbook that I plan on using. I would recommend that everyone try to eat that way even if it's for a week! You will be amazed at how good you feel!!! My hubby is also eating some vegan meals that I have prepared and he loves them. Have a good day everyone!0
