Bittersweet Workout - Feeling A Little Discouraged

Hello Everyone,
I had a great workout today. I did a walk/run on the treadmill and spent some time on the stationary bike. Though I had a great workout, I couldn't help myself from looking at the other people at the gym who were running the entire time that I was there. I was doing a 1min run/1min walk routine and was totally out of breath and these people were running for 45min-60min straight. I feel like I am so far away from that point and want desperately to be able to have that kind of endurance. That's why I feel bittersweet about my workout...proud of my workout but discouraged because of how far I have to go.
Am I the only person who feels like this at the gym? What do you guys do when you feel like you are only at the bottom of the mountain and have such a long way to go?
Help! :frown:

Well
We all know how you feel but remember this. You are probably starting from a low fitness levell and if you keep going you wi
L improve quickly.
Key points are to not over force yourself and try too hard or to beat so many targets- do it because you enjoy the calm and satisfaction afterwards.
I always like to exercise on my own so that I can day dream . If this is safe for you to do give it a try.
Also if you have a pal train together but keep the competition out of it!
All the best

This is probably the main reason I stopped going to the gym. Not only did I feel inferior, but I also felt like I was being judged (which I probably wasn't). Those feelings kept me from exercising for too long. Now that I am back at it I find I enjoy other exercise, just not the gym. If you enjoy the gym then stay there and focus on what your there for, if you don't like the gym then do like that Kaiser commercial and find "your thing". :-)0

Thank you for your response, Paul. Two things that resonate with me from your post are not forcing myself and enjoying the calm satisfaction afterwards. I'm forgetting to enjoy this experience and still have the idea of "working out" framed as a job rather than a satisfactory experience. If I have fun, I'll want to continue and not pay (as much) attention to those around me. I also like the idea of working out alone (when it is safe to do so, of course). I think I would like that a lot. Thanks again!0 -

Absolutely! I feel so self-conscious and inferior! I like the idea of expanding my options and not feeling confined to a gym environment for exercise. I'm going to find "my thing" and hopefully find weight loss success like you have:) Thanks!0
