I don't beleive my scales, please help! water weight?

I weighed myself yesterday and found I had lost 3 pounds in a month, which I was really pleased with. I weighed myself today also (I know I shouldn't have but it's so nice to see an improvement, it can get a bit addictive!), and it said I'd lost another 3 pounds in a day?! That can't possibly be right! Could my first weigh in have been water weigh, and I really have lost 6 pounds, or are my scales most likely broken? I haven't seen much difference so I'd be really surprised if I'd lost that much!

Also, would 6 pounds in a month be too fast, and I'm likely just to put it back? I don't want that. =/

Thank you for reading and any replies!

6 pounds in a month is only 1.5 pounds per week, so while it's fast it's definitely not TOO fast. If you changed your diet drastically (like, by significantly lowering your sodium) there's a good chance you were carrying an extra couple pounds of pure water weight on day 1 which fell off very quickly.

Water weight can fluctuate from day to day, so don't be discouraged if you appear to have gained those 3 pounds back tomorrow.

Thank you! I won't be, I'm not too bothered by scales because I'd like to gain some muscle over time, which I know is heavier, and I know I can fluctuate throughout a day purely by eating and water weight.

Do you think I can put that I've lost 6 pounds on MFP to adapt my goals? Or is that not my 'real' weight, because normally I might carry some water weight?

Up to you which weight you record - record the one which will motivate you the most!

Getting a real weight is so tricky we shouldn't get hung up on it. Trends are more important.
