polyols - good or bad for a healthy eating plan

polyols ---- there is 6.9g per 100g in my cereal

they are sugar alcohol added to foods because of their lower calorific content than sugars this much I know thanks to a friend on here .... however Im none the wiser ....

Ive googled and all I come up with is the fact that they have a lower calorific value than carbs because the body doesn't digest them and they pass right through... eeeeoooww!!!

all I want to know is .... are they bad for my diet?

I mainly eat un-processed foods, however, I have difficulty eating anything in the morning and the cereal that I manage to eat has these "polyols"

should I dump this cereal and find something else or are these polyols OK for the body?

If you are on a low FODMAP diet then this irritates the stomach. If you don't experience any problems then I don't see anything wrong with it

Overall they're not bad for your diet, they're commonly used in food industry as well as cosmetics. Like sugar free chewing gums (that's commonly sorbitol), some diet foods. Chemically, I don't believe you'll suffer from any side effect except for laxative effect if you're consuming it in high amounts. If you have IBS, you may want to stay away from it.

thanks for the replys I don't have IBS or anything similar,

Im normally the picture of health however I seem to have a bit of excess wind after starting eating these each day ..... after reading about them I feel it must be linked .... apparently its caused by the fact that they mostly pass right through the system.

    Just dosnt seem healthy :-/
