A gym membership (here is around 360 for a family membership per year ) , some new running shoes , lifting gloves , and if I had enough left over one or two sessions with a personal trainer0

HRM, running shoes, and books. You can never have too much knowledge, and on top of that, equipment is useless if you don't know how to use it properly!0

3 kettlebells (which are small enough to fit in your closet) say 15, 25 & 35 pounders; a good jump rope; medium and heavy resistance bands; 10 pound medicine ball; yoga mat; a step bench with risers that can go in the closet. All of these things can fit in a fairly small closet. Also, add in a good whey protein powder such as Jay Robb's. Depending on the deal you get on your kettlebells, you might add one or two more. That's it. You're set. Oh, you might need a kettlebell DVD unless you already know what to do.0

New running shoes, good set of dumbbells, a bosu ball. Yeah that's probably enough.0

Pull up bar
Push up handles
Poster of Michelle Pfeiffer in catwoman suit
Yoga mat
Bowflex adjustable dumbbells
$4850 -
I agree with the folks that suggested resistance bands, dumb bells, fun exercise dvds that will show you creative ways to use them and I would add a jump rope to the list. Good luck!0

Hula hoop, dumbbells, leg weights, bike, resistance bands.0

Two kettlebells and a skipping rope. Under $100.0

I love my Wii Game Console using the "Jenny McCarthy's Your Shape". It helped me shed 45 pounds in the last year or so. Takes up no room at all, other than the console on the TV stand and the little camera on top of the TV0

Tapout XT
Polar HRM
Sparring gear for Tae Kwon Do0 -

I preferred Halle Berry as catwoman personally (at least visually since we're talking posters) .0 -

Shame on you . . . next you'll be telling me you prefer tofu bacon over real bacon.0 -
Bowflex selecttech dumbells, or powerblocks. It's nice to have a complete set of weights that take up so little space.0

All of the following my husband and I have purchased and have put to good use over the years:
gym membership
Garmin/HRM
running sneakers
exercise ball
various dumb bells
resistance bands (my husband likes these, I rarely use)
pull up bar (my husband uses this all the time, I need to use more)
push up handles
P90X DVDs (my husband used, I did not)
Insanity DVDs (I used these quit a bit)
and most recently (in last 2 years):
sparring gear
Wave Master punch/kicking bag
breaking board
clap kicker targets (for kicking)
If I had $500 burning a hole in my pocket, I would love to purchase a home gym set... but honestly the one that I want is more than $500.0 -
i'd get some kettle bells and a stand up punching bag0
