If anyone has had this procedure done could you please, please give me some info. I recieved a call this morning from my Doctor that they want me to come back and have this procedure. My general questions are (nurses line at the office said I would get a call within 72 hours, explaining the procedure) I can't wait that long. My general questions are, Does this mean Cancer? Can I go back to work after the procedure? Is it painful? Any info would be beneficial. Thanks.

HI.... this is my first day here, and just happened to find your post.... I had a LEEP done last year. Mine was done for "pre-cancerous" lesions that were found after 2 abnormal paps. It doesn't necessarily mean "Caner", but more likely 'pre" My Dr. basically said that as long as you get your regular yearly, its very rare for it to develop to actual cancer before they find it and take care of it.
As for work..... they gave me that day and the following day off. I probably wouldn't have had to, but I went ahead and took it, I had some moderate bleeding and quite a bit of cramping, just felt like a really bad period for the most part. I had the procedure done on a Thursday afternoon, so I had the rest of that day plus Friday off per the Dr. but then I had Sat. and Sun off already, but went to cookouts and stuff without any discomfort or anything. As for the pain during the procedure...... there was some... if you had a biopsy done prior to this, its actually less pain than that because they sprayed a numbing medicine for this one (I didn't have anything for the biopsy). I guess after having two kids, the pain wasn't anything I couldn't deal with during the procedure, just a little discomfort. As I said, the pain afterward was just more like a really bad period with cramping and stuff. If there is anything else I can answer for you, let me know. I'm assuming they told you what is involved as far as what they do and everything, if not, let me know and I"ll try to answer for you! Good luck....it won't be that bad.:flowerforyou:
  • I imagine you already had a colposcopy (biopsy). The Leep procedure is done to remove the bad cells, usually not cancerous.

abnormal cervical cells can go through a progression of changes..gradualluy turning into cancer if left alone. If treated (with Leep), usually healthy cells grown back. It is very important to get your repeat pap smears after though to make sure that the cells do not recur.

women say , it is not a painful procedure..just uncomfortable. Your doctor may have you take some motrin before your procedure to prevent the cramps associated with the procedure.

Not all women bleed after. You may still cramp. Probably have some real nasty discharge while the cells are healing themselves up for the first two weeks. You definitly do not want to go back to work immediately after the procedure. ut the next day or two should be fine.
