losing too fast??

Greetings,

I started MFP last Saturday at 239 .lbs. After less than a week of calorie counting and my usual exercise (cycling/walking), I am weighing in at 234 .lbs.

In the short time I've used MFP, I realize (like so many others have!) that I have been really OVERestimating my caloric intake.

Is my quick drop normal for someone paying much closer attention to calories or too much? I DID start at a pretty high weight...

Thanks,
Richard

No, it's not too much because you started out at a pretty high weight, it will level out after the second week.

People with a lot to lose generally lose very quickly in the beginning. It will level off.

And, a good percentage of your lose could have been water weight, especially if you started exercising or made major changes in your diet.

So, just remember that weight loss isn't linear and you will have ups and downs. Don't get discouraged when your weight fluctuates or if you don't lose for a week. It's like that sometimes.

    Congrats on getting started!!

Never take a week as a trend. If you're still losing weight this fast in two more weeks, then you might want to re-evaluate. But especially in the beginning, drinking a little more water and getting your eating under control can often result in a "newbie bonus", which you should be proud of and enjoy.

Also, I see a bicycle helmet. If you start seeing your cycling performance drop off significantly, that might be another sign that you are underfeeding your body. I bicycle back and forth to work most days (about 30 miles a day in hills) and if I don't feed myself back some of those calories, my speeds start dropping off and I start feeling crappy after the rides. When I eat properly, the hills are shallower and I feel GOOD after the ride, not tired and shaky.

I lost 11 my first week and 8 my second week. I started at 263 and now down to 244.

Others told me to consider it "junk food" weight. It should slow down within the first 30 days is what I'm told.

    It's just water weight.
