Breakups Suck

I'm kind of new here. I've been using the food and exercise diary to keep track, but I've only just gotten started in the forums.
Anyway, I originally came on here for diet support because my boyfriend and I planned to move in together in at the end of August and I didn't want to gain weight as a result (eating his foods, etc.). Well, he just decided he doesn't think I'm the girl who he wants to take that step with now, so I had to break it off. It was a complete reversal in a very short period of time and I am in total shock.
And now I'm looking for support for exercise! Anyone looking for an exercise motivation buddy? I HAVE to be sure to get out of the house every day and not come back to early after work, so I'm going to try and go to the gym as much as possible.
Also could just use a forum to interact with people that isn't Facebook for obvious reasons...
I've met some cool people on here already and am always interested in meeting more.

OK, what is wrong with him??? Beautiful woman like you, oh well his loss I say. Feel free to read my profile about being an emotional eater, I have to exercise or I will give in, place my butt on the couch, watch TV and graze/snack til I too tired to stay up. So I empathize with the motivation issue. Reading Michael Pollan's Food Rules and it is a good guide, easy read and interesting fact without being preachy. Feel free to add me as a friend if you so desire, keep at it and don't give up. Also went through a divorce a few years back and exerecise and staying busy was my saving grace. Hang in there! Keith0

Thank you for the kind words. I tend to go the other way - stress makes me feel physically ill, so I find that I don't eat and then a day or two later I'm starving and I chow down. I don't do it to lose weight - I do it because I'm nauseous. If I can work out, I think this pit in my stomach will go away and I can move on back to my healthier eating patterns. Going to the gym will also occupy me at night and wear me out for sleeping, because sleeping is hard right now.
I peeped your profile and it sounds like you turned it around - even remarried! Awesome. :-)
I'm going to check out that book as soon as I finish reading "It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken." Yes, my life is a Diane Lane movie right now...0 -

Break-ups are always ****ty, unfortunately I think I may be going through something like that soon.

I'm a bit like you - I don't comfort eat, I comfort don't eat :P Seriously though when I was depressed I completely lost any appetite - even the smell of food made me feel physically sick and I could hardly force myself to eat anything. I ate virtually nothing for 3 weeks and ended up shedding 2.6 stone! Not healthy :S
What didn't help though was people ie. parents, thinking I was anorexic/bulemic when I was nothing of the sort - I wasn't avoiding food because of any preconceived body image, I wasn't eating because food made me feel sick and it didn't help my depression one bit knowing they were trying to listen out for me throwing up in the bathroom when I was genuinely just going to the loo (what with comments afterwards about how long I'd been in there - yeah if you call under 2 minutes a long time!) Sorry mini rant there!
But yes break ups do suck, better to go through it now though than after you moved in together.0 -
Break ups do suck! I was heartbroken in February and am still recovering. Just take it one day at a time and before you know it the world will be a happy place again
I still try to workout to make me feel better. Sometimes the cute guys at the gym are motivation enough for me to get in there and get a machine right in the front row. I try not to stare. What motivates me even more is seeing a person larger than me hitting it hard, makes me feel like I gotta step it up!0 -
I agree with both of you guys. I definitely comfort don't eat and I've got the most amazing friends who are stopping by with food every day because they know this about me. So they hang out to get me in a better place where I can eat, and then they either stay or go home. That's how the buffalo wrap happened yesterday :-) But my parents are a different story - they always think I'm going back to my ED, even though I haven't had a relapse in a long, long time.
The gym is going to be my savior. It's a really busy place with a ton of people, pools, machines, classes, etc. so there are a ton of distractions. Including the cute guys, although I know it's going to be a long time before I even want to talk to a new guy, let alone date. Gosh, I can't even imagine the whole process of dating. Best to date myself, I think.0
