Hi! I was just wondering if anyone might be able to clarify something for me...as I am a little confused about BMR. My BMR is 1126, but I have heard that you should never eat below 1200 calories. How does that work?

MFP sets 1200 as the bottom limit to calorie intake as a legal security for them. They figure its rare to find a person to have a BMR under that.

You are one of the rare ones. But, your BMR being 1126 is close enough to 1200 that I'd say stick with eat 1200 to 1300 while also eating under your TDEE.

1200 calories is pretty much a generic lowest point for most people. From what I've read you aren't actually suppose to eat below your BMR. Since you have to have just that amount to survive if you were in a coma/ completely sedentary/ to just maintain life functions. So with a BMR of 1126 you would still need to eat 1200 (actually more) in order to have a healthy body. I'm not saying that you CAN'T eat below it, but it's hard to get all your nutrients in such a small amount of food.

Your BMR is not the amount of calories you consume every day, so having one at 1126 doesn't equal you eating less than 1200 calories. Re-calculate it at the link below then follow the link Daily Calorie Needs. Hope this helps!

I would eat more and exercise more , your body needs fuel and if you go to low you jeoperdize your health . You would be better off eating 1500 calories and doing weights and cardio . just stay active and dont deprive your body, maybe look into a multi vitamin as well. (jmho)
