How much does binging set weight loss back?

Well, I didn't binge. I just had a few drinks with a friend and a slice of cake. But the dinner was also pretty calorific. (Chicken, mashed potato and mushroom sauce). And I'm going out again tomorrow night for a friends 24th, where many drinks will be had

Just wondering how much going say... 1,000 calories over your goal would set you back. If you did it twice a week?

two times 1,000 calorie excesses in a week might cost you about a pound at most.

Depends on how much of a deficit you have to begin with. If you are set to lose 1 pound a week, you have a 3500-calorie deficit, going over twice a week by that much brings you down to a 1500-calorie deficit.

Twice a week is nothing if it is once a blue moon - but twice a week - every week will keep you heavy.

I am 1200 over for today - I'm not bothered, you're meant to enjoy life too. Have a great time at the party!

I wouldnt worry about it too much, its a party, enjoy it!! And maybe just go an extra 20 mins on the treadmill. If you restrict yourself and beat yourself up too much you will only end up falling off the wagon completely!

    For me its different.

I do low carb, so when I binge its normally on carbohydrate rich foods. Since I have probably depleted my excess water and glycogen stores, any extra carbs I eat will get soaked up to become part of those stores.

If I have a little bit of some sweets, but not much, it might stall me for a day. A little more might be two days.

A day of eating whatever I like, not necessarily all bad but def some desserts and lots of sugar in there, it can last up to 5 days if I get right back on track. That's according to the scale anyway. Since I like to see losses on the scale (and still have a bit to lose), I only eat that stuff when I really, really want it. So far, no regrets on that! I can always have it later.

Well, I could. But I just reached the legal drinking age and I hardly go to parties, so I'd rather have some fancy cocktails and be all happeh ^_^

    Thanks guys :D

    editing I fail today...

initially I just responded to the first part of your post. I don't think 1000 cals is the end of the world. Maybe some extra water weight twice in a week, but nothing that wont' come off, nothing that will reflect on how you look, and nothing that can't be taken off (water weight) in the next week or so. Just decide how much you want before hand, and have fun!

so I guess it wont be too bad. Its just this weekend anyway.

So in theory, you have a 1,000 calorie a day deficit, so eating over that by 1,000 calories would take you up to maintenance for that day, and you shouldn't gain anything. If your maintenance level is less than 2200, and MFP has you capped at 1200 calories a day, then there is slightly less room for manoeuvre, but even eating 1000 calories over on two days - the other days eating at a deficit will even them out.

If you're eating party food, you may be getting a lot of extra sodium & carbs, so you might find you put on a few pounds in water weight, but that will come off.

If it's just this weekend you probably won't see a noticeable difference at all. BUT you may get a fluctuation where you will be a couple of pounds heavier due to water weight. Don't worry about that as it will go away quickly.
