Migraines - how do they affect you?

When I get migraines my body craves carbs and I usually stock up then hide away in a dark room for a couple of days. This isn't great for my weight loss I know, but I've found that it seems to help the pain. I drink well over the recommended intake of water everyday as standard, and even more so when I have a migraine.

How do migraines effect you all?

I used to get terrible migraines, but never had any cravings with them. Since I started MFP and tracked everything I eat and am not consuming 3000+ calories a day, I have not had a single one!

When I get a migraine, I do not crave anything except a dark room! They wipe me out. I usually have to stay in the bed with a heating pad.

Erica that's great to hear! I've found since getting glasses with a prism in the lens and starting herbalife, that I've had hardly any migraines, but I still seem to be suffering hormonal ones. My fiancé pointed this out to me - I hadn't noticed. Perhaps that's why I have cravings. The other bizarre cure I've used since I was little is Pickled Onion monster munch - don't ask me why!

What do you use the heating pad for? I think I should have phrased the question differently, in the days running up to a migraine I start unconsciously stocking up on carbs before crashing in a dark room once it hits.

I've had migraines for as long as I can remember - around aged 7 I think.

I never get a headache that I can fight off on my own. I always have to take tablets. Mine are mostly related to tiredness, temperature, eye strain or lack of food. For instance I can't work much on the internet because the white screen hurts my eyes too much. My screen within applications like word and excel are blue or green, because again the white is too much for my eyes.

My eyes are sensitive to the light. Something about my pupils being larger than normal so they let more light in.

I have to eat regularly too, if I miss a meal that can bring one on.

I don't crave anything except the dark and the capability to remove my head from my body so that I don't feel the pain anymore. For a day or 2 afterwards I feel very off as well.

Sometimes I don't get a full blown migraine, but a headache that lasts for up to 3-4 days straight.

Not nice, but something I've learned to live with.

I focus on managing the causes rather than monitoring what I'm up to before one hits. I don't eat, or crave food though. I tend to curse and reach for the tablets if I've mismanaged.

I get them now and again ... I don't find that I crave food when I get a migraine. When I have one anything makes me feel sick... food, drinks, as well as the medication I use when I have one.

When I get a full on migraine I'm out for the day. I can't eat anything and can't really drink anything either without feeling like I need to throw up. I spend the day in the darkest room I have and wait it out.

I tend to be able to stop them from happening though. If I don't drink enough water, sit in a smoky room for too long or have too much wine I'm bound to wake up with one the next morning.
