Eggs, I'm still confused

Okay, so I have a bunch of eggs in the fridge...I've read about the health benefits of eggs and the cholesterol content of them, but I'm still confused.

"They" say that 1-2 eggs a day isn't going to affect chol. levels and that 7 eggs/wk is okay, but I can't eat just 2 eggs in one sitting. I usually make 3 with my scrambles. That said, the chol. for that is sky high in one day.

I don't have any egg whites and honestly I don't know if I even want to buy them. I love the taste of yolk. What are your thoughts/advice?

You can take the yolk out of the egg... you don't need to buy them... unless you are INCREDIBLY lazy that you can't spare 4 seconds...

If you refuse to not down a ton of cholesterol, then stick to 7 a week.

You could try 2 egg whites + 1 whole egg..

Also, with egg whites alone, you should use spices to liven up the flavor.

Basically you are saying something like "I hear buts are good for you, but how can I eat them alone? I HAVE to have them in a snickers bar! Is that bad?"

Unless you are a high responder who is overweight and has a family history or cholesterol issues, it is not a probelm to eat as many eggs as you'd like. Dietary cholesterol has little relationship to serum cholesterol.

BUY EGGLAND'S BEST EGGS! They are so good, lower in cholesterol and they have added healthy fats in the form of Omega 3, due to grain fed to the chicken.

Have you had a lipid profile done recently? Do you have a family history of high cholesterol?

Eggs are a great source of protein. It's what we ADD TO THEM that makes them not healthy. Cook them with pam instead of butter-add lots of veggies and a slice of whole wheat toast.

Now I'm not recommending you eat 5 eggs every day or that you even do them every day...a few times a week and three eggs each time is just fine...you look young so I wouldn't imagine you have a problem with high cholestrol.

NOW, they can be high in calories just because they're kind of dense calorically and they do have fat in them, so if you're worried about that, try two whole eggs and one egg white.

I'm a dietitian-it's ok for a young male to eat eggs. Geez, my fiancee eats scrambled eggs like they're going out of style.

At 70 calories per large egg, do you really consider that calorie dense? Compared to what? 3 soft boiled eggs are 270 calories with 24 grams of protein. Sounds like a calorie bargin and an incredibly nutritionally dense food!

But if you're eating 3 eggs daily, the % of calories that come from fat are pretty high.

I'm not knocking eggs-I love them. But you can have too much of a good thing. It's all about moderation.

I mean if you do three soft boiled eggs, that's 13.2 gm fat just from the eggs...you do that every day for breakfast in one week, you're talking 92.4 gm of fat from the eggs alone.

I think eggs are great, but just like anything else you have to have them in moderation. I mean It shocked me how many calories are in even 1% milk-I was doing lattes all the time (no syrup) and it was surprising how quickly the calories added up.

i do this! 2 egg white + 1 whole egg and start filling up the pan with the goodies! if you are in a time crunch you can buy ham already diced, turkey sausage already crumbled, and I have even been known to buy a veggie tray already made up and and use the things in it.

I agree with what you've said but that is a different concern. What I was surprised about what the caloric density statement. Truthfully, I don't eat 3 eggs 7 days per week. The fat in eggs does help improve HDL so even if I did, I wouldn't really be concerned that much. But your point is well taken in terms of managing your macronutrients.
  • I can't believe no one has mentioned that almost all the nutrients found in eggs are in the yolk. Eat your yolks people!

If you're concerned about cholesterol and don't really like the taste of egg whites, why not eat 2 whole eggs with 1 egg white. It tastes really good. That's what I did this morning, had 2 whole eggs and 2 egg whites. Delicious!
