What to eat while on travel with friends?

this site has been really helpful for losing weight for me so far, so I thought I'd give it a go to ask.

I had on and off times with sports and eating healthy. After my exam in June I am now back to eating healthy and doing a lot of sports. So far it has worked out really well. I prepare all food at home, bring it to work and go for a workout afterwards. Not going out much, for I am new in town, don't know that many people yet and also too much work.

The next two weeks I will now see my friends again, which is great. But we also tend to go out a bit and I am worried about my eating habits changing back from quite good to not that good or at least too much to still lose weight. I won't eat any sweets (had cut that out completely for the last weeks) and I drink no alcohol. But I will also spend a good amount of time in the car and train, and while I am bringing my gym clothes, I don't think I will be able to workout everyday.

I am looking for any advise, both how to fit workouts into travels and how to make sure not to eat too much. I am right now on 1300cal/day, which goes well if I do exercise and can eat these calories back. I am often over if I don't exercise though. I probably take some protein powder with me, so I can get a quick shake if I am too hungry and nothing good is around.

Any other advice and ideas would be appreciated.

    Bring a small cooler. They have some cheap, affordable ones that easily fit a lunch and some snacks. Bring your own food. If your friends give you grief, tell them you are trying to save money. Cook meals at home, and take them with you. 80% of the time the food you make will be better than the cr&p thats out there, and you will feel a million times better for not splurging.

    I keep pistachios around at all times. Especially when I go to baseball games, which I do quite a bit.

    There are a bunch of CrossFit travel WOD's that are designed to be done with bodyweight only. PM me and I'll send you a few. They are short and intense, and can be scaled to the individual. About 50 or so of them. Most take about 20 minutes.

    Split meals with your friend and suggest active activities. I don't know if you'll drink or not, but a trick I use is to order a can of beer--then every time I go to the restroom, I just fill up the can with water. I'm still drinking, but zero calories! :) Good luck!

    I think my friends are fine. They may offer me some sweets when they forget I don't eat them right now, but apart from that they know not to argue with me. I am deeply impressed that you can have nuts around and not eat them all immediately. I tried and failed miserably, so if I buy them I just get small portions. I always have dried apricots around though.

    Yes, bringing food sounds like a good plan, especially for long train rides. Will see if I can get a cooler next week.

    One friend of mine is a yoga teacher and another one teaches martial arts a similar style I do, so I'll ask for some private training. I am sure they are happy to boss me around a bit ;-).

    So avoiding snacks and eating out too much will be the tricky part.

    Like the others said, bring a cooler. If you do stop places, use common sense and make smart decisions. As far as exercise, when stopping at the restroom, walk around a bit. If you are sleeping in a hotel and it's in a safe area, go for a walk. Or maybe they have a fitness center?? Swim in the pool? Think outside the box and you will come up with some creative ideas.
