Knee surgery - tips for exercise?

I started P90X in April. I got to month 2, week 2 when I injured my knee. I had also been running (slowly) during that time. I've lost a total of ten pounds, but now I'm not really doing much in the way of exercise other than my normal every day work (I run a dog rescue and work with obedience training with them daily). It looks like I will need to have surgery - hopefully arthroscopic. I need to find some workouts I can do that do not involve knee pressure. P90X is out for now. I'm hoping someone can throw a few ideas out there that I haven't thought of!

Cycling with a perfectly adjusted seat. Swimming - use a pull buoy so you don't have to kick, although depending on the injury, flutter kick might be ok.0

I lost 10lbs when I had a broken foot. focus on upper body workouts e.g. boxing or weights. I know it sounds stupid but anything that can break you out in a sweat- it doesnt have to be 'exercise'. I used to sit in bed and 'dance' to music. Mind you using crutches was hard work and could get you out of breath.
Also obviously reduce calories more after surgery due to moving less.0 -
My mom just had a knee replacement... and she walked for 2 miles up until day of surgery and is now doing wonderfully.
My suggestion is to walk or do the elliptical.. it's less impact on the joints.0 -
Thanks for the feedback! Cycling with very low tension will probably work. Once I have the surgery, the flutter kick in a pool will be doable, right now it's actually pretty painful. Even using the elliptical right now is painful. I like the swimming idea, though.0
