Lactose intolerance

I am posting this because I have seen several questions about lactose intolerance.
I have been diagnosed lactose intolerant by the doctor. I described my symptoms to her (gas, stomach pain, etc.) and she referred me to have a lactose test (which is horrible, but doable) and then she found that I am in fact lactose intolerant (when they test for lactose they also test for gluten intolerance). Nowadays, it's fairly easy to avoid dairy products with such a wide selection of non-dairy products available. There is lactose free sour cream, milk. Soy cheese, yogurt (which is actually pretty good...the cheese not so much). Goat products are also lactose free, I LOVE feta and goat cheeses so that's perfect for me but I've never tried goat milk. Of course, there's also lactaid available in a large variety of sizes. No name products work just as well but are about half the price. Because I have such a severe intolerance I have to take 3 Ultra (9000 unit) pills each and every time. However when I started it wasn't too bad and I only had to take one 1500 unit. Do NOT take more than 3 Ultra pills at one time, if you've worked up to that and it's still a problem then you need to cut dairy from your diet. Any questions, just send me a message!

Thanks for posting this. I've been lactose intolerant since around 1997. Although, I don't seem to be as sensitive as I was in the beginning. Now, I can eat hard cheeses (cheddar, etc) and yogurt without any problems. Milk and ice cream are my biggest problems. I've never tried goat cheese, but I've had feta... didn't realize it was lactose-free.
Thanks and good luck!!0 -
Try Almond, its delicious. I gave up soy/silk milk for this, plus its lactose free. Its only 80 cals per 8 oz. You cannot beat that. I Luuuvvv it. Matter of fact the people in the areal i live in love it to becasue every time i go to the grocery store, whether its walmart, kroger or other store, there is no almond milk but you have plenty of regular, silk and rice milk. Give it try!!0

A lot of times it is in a box (it doesn't need to be refrigerated until opened) so you may find it in the natural foods aisle or another nonperishable drink aisle. I've seen it at King Soopers, Safeway, Publix, Kroger, etc so it's pretty easy to find!0

Well I live in Canada so the same things are not always available but I will look for it again.0
