NSV,Experience with BP and Cholesterol Meds?

I have been on BP meds and Cholesterol Meds for a while and am now seriously changing diet and exercise.

I have noticed that days I forget to take the meds my exercise routine is harder, has anyone else noticed that?

Also, I fully expect that my BP and Cholesterol will be down at my next blood test (October) but I got to thinking, does that mean the doctor will suggest losing the meds, which would then mean the work outs would be tougher? Has anyone else got to this point, did the doctor just take you off the meds or did you cut down dosages?

Obviously I'm going to go with the doctors advice but I was wondering if anyone has had a NSV of not needing the pills?

I have been taking BP meds, a beta blocker and heartburn meds for some time. In may, my doctor cut my BP meds in half because, even with them, my BP was 110/76. She plans on taking me off them completely. She has me watching how I feel, watching for signs of low blood pressure. When they show up, I am to call and she will probably take me off them. I can't wait!

I am totally off of meds for both bp and chol. I am taking fish oil capsules at the suggestion of my doctor and am eating more salmon and cod and tuna as well as using more olive and canola oils. My chol has dropped from 260+ to 201 in 6 months. I have also started walking for exercise and am up to an hour a day most days. I have lost a total of 36lbs. I would ask your doc about taking fish oil and also would add the foods and oils I mentioned. I would also not change anything or cut down or stop meds without the drs. approval. If you are changing your diet and exercising regularly then when it does come time to cut down or quit the meds you should feel fine with exercising. I hope this helps. Remember, most of the people on the web have NOT been trained in any facet of health and fitness. Many are just starting this life of health. These are the ones who have read a couple books and a few magazine articles and have become self proclaimed experts in the field. I and many others however have made this priority in our lives for many yrs(20+ for me, with formal training as a fitness trainer). Make sure who you are taking advice from and check and double check with multiple sources to find the truth out. And remember this also. Many healthcare professionals are going by the status quo of studies. There is new evidence all the time coming out that the myths of the last 50-60yrs were based on faulty assumptions and not on good science. One case being the egg. Once it was thought that no one should eat over two in a week, now the new studies have shown what I believed and practiced all along. Eating two eggs a day is actually good for you. There is no real evidence to support the old thinking, but many professionals don't keep up on the new science Enough for now.
