How can I lose weight with one splurge meal a week!

For two weekends in a row we have been at bbqs and I have had that so called splurge meal. Ni still had no refined foods, no "white" foods, but ate all the meat and veggies and wine, gin, choclate, etc I felt like, and both time my caloric intake for the day was over by 400+. How can that not sabotage my hard work the rest of the week?
Can I still lose weight with the odd splurge meal? I'm certainly not going to do this next week..

Because the net deficit that you've created for the days are not cheat days, is far greater than -400.0 -

Yes. Enjoy your life.0 -
Every time I have a cheat day like you as long as I made good choices like you did I still tend to lose weight. Sometimes
it is a shock to the system.0 -

As long as you eat right 90% of the time you'll be fine, and this advice was given to me by my trainer who is an ex bodybuilder. If you're only doing it once a week I see absolutely no problem. If it really bothers you though then do an extra workout the next day.0

I have not only a splurge meal once a week, but it's a splurge DAY. I usually take in a NET of about 3000-3500 calories. I still lose.
Your body ain't as complicated as some ppl make it out to be. Eating high cal once a week ain't gonna derail you. Your body likes food.0 -
going 400 calories is not a splurge. Come on you need a 4 figure over to count it as a splurge0

I splurge pretty much every Sat. I love food, and I love to indulge. Enjoy it0

Um, yes. Yes you can. Being over your DEFICIT by 400 a couple days over the course of a few weeks will not really cause you any major set backs.0
-
400 over probably didn't even get you to a maintenance level for that DAY let alone for the week.0

I see this as changing my diet all together. I don't "award" myself a day to eat whatever because food is not the reward. The reward will be fitting into those cute jeans when I lose the weight. Yes, I have those days that I eat candy and treats, but I don't see that as a reward. I end up regretting it because I work my butt off trying to lose those calories that I gained from the day before. I don't want to feel like I should be punished for eating snacks. I just learn how to control myself and stick to my diet. I went out to a restaurant with my family yesterday and at broccoli and tofu (because I love it) then I had chocolate at the movies. I did not consider that a cheat day, I pretty much consider that cheating myself. It will only take longer for me to reach my goal. So I try not to allow myself cheat days. I try to be consistent with my diet, and if I go over board I'll try to work those excess calories off.0

Wow, thanks for the quick replies! This makes me feel a lot better, especially given it was the huge amount of prosciutto I ate prior to dinner that put my colonic intake so far over.. I like the idea that my body likes food, I pretty much ate and drank the same things, just way too much of it.. Alcohol always makes me eat way too much, so it's a good thing I only have one glass of red through out the week.
Thank you everyone!0 -

4 figures?! ooohh its go big or go home!0 -
Drinking lots of water ... before and after helps. Water helps clean your system and prevents the damaging food to stay in your system too long.0

This. If you have a 500 calorie deficit 6 days of the week, and a 500 calorie overage 1 day of the week, then your total calorie deficit for the week will be 2500. You would lose .71 lbs that week.0 -

I hate when my colonic intake goes over.0 -

So, I just calculated my two weeks, and I'm still under my caloric intake by over 500, that's going on 1200 a day. When you are using your figures are you calculating based on your caloric intake to lose or maintenance calories? What I'm trying to figur out is that if I eat say 600 extra on a Saturday and that takes me to my full diet ie 1200 each night for the week (I would have to save some each night) or if I calculate it based on my maintenance intake then I would not lose weight that week if ate the equivelent of the same amount of calories on a cheat day that would have been my maintenance difference for the week, say 2100? Does that make sense? So if I have a chest or free day, I still should stay away for prosciutto!!0 -
I try and hit 1200 most days, sometimes a little over or a little under, but often go a bit overboard on a Friday or Saturday, (by way more than 400 cals!) and I'm averaging a loss of 1.5lb per week. Don't stress about it.0
