cardio & weights OR weights & yoga ... ?

I'm having a difficult time utilizing the gym 100% ... I want the most bang for my time in, but with 20lbs to drop before fall i'm looking for the most burn a good 5 days out of the week. i rest in between weights so I get that and the protein to help with recovery, but what I don't understand is the benefits between cardio and core....
I don't target areas, bec' that doesn't really work....all I want is to get to a target/healthy weight with the best punch.
Any advice would help...including power foods to concentrate on, THX

Yes. And can be built through a well designed weight training programme.
Heavy lifting, squats, deadlifts. If time's limited, a good strength programme will do the basics for core training.0 -
do everything. carido, weights, and yoga. alternate. lift heavy. up your protein intake to at least 30%.0

Do all 3, that's the best way to go. TRUST Me ALL are important...and just because you are flexible now, don't neglect it because as you age, here is the order of things: #1 Flexibility, #2 Strength (ESPECIALLY Lower Body) to keep you mobile! Endurance is about perception and a bit of "pride" when we are young; where do you walk/climb and what do you do in everyday life that you will go more than a mile w/o stopping?0 -
All three. Yoga isn't just about flexibility either. It will correct the stuff you throw out of whack doing weights and cardio. My back cracks like crazy during Yoga and it feels SO GOOD.0

I hear cardio burn a lot in the moment, but significant weight lifting burns more in the long run....so which would you add to yoga 3 x week??0 -
For weight loss, lifting heavy is the most effective, followed by high intensity interval training like sprints, followed in a very distant third place by steady state cardio. Weight lifting has been shown to be up to 9 times more effective at burning subcutaneous fat over time than steady state cardio (mostly through the afterburn effect).0

Try power yoga! I lost over 20 pounds in a few months by doing it everyday. My favorite power yoga instructor is Mark Gonzales. He produces some of the best yoga videos I've seen out there. High quality, excellent flow, great instruction and he creates such a great workout experience. Check him out if you can!
