What am i doing wrong?

Hi there! :) Im 21, 5'8 and currently 168lbs.

I started the Insanity course just about 2 weeks ago. Currently feeling very disheartened due to im not seeing any difference in how i look and the scale isnt budging (lol). Although i can feel the difference in my health (for example walking up a really steep hill i can now get up there without being breathless) I really work hard in the sessions and i finish sweating my butt off (id be more dry jumping in a pool) Im really losing the willpower and its hard enough to get that in the first place.

My goal is to lose 14lbs for my wedding on the 24th Aug this year. And after that i'd really like to drop more and really tone my ab areas.

Rather than 1 40 min session, Im starting to do 2 sessions a day equalling 60-90 mins of the cardio calisthenics. According to mfp my daily calories should be 1280. Which is hit nail on the head most days. My diet is alot healthier. Lots of veggies, fish and lean meats, baked potatoes, beans. I dont eat choc, crisps or any junk. From tomorrow i will be taking True MRP from myprotein.com for my lunchtime snack. So an example is:

Breakfast: 2 weetabix and a banana

Lunch: MRP shake with fruit (grapes, apples, melon and bananas)

Dinner: Anything consisting of meat and veggies or baked potato with beans (i love beans!)

Is this good enough to be able to lose the 14lbs? Is there any reason i cant see a difference in myself or with a tape measure. I really need some help to know what im doing wrong. Any advice on what i should/shouldnt be doing, tips, what foods and whatnot is much appreciated!! Thankyou

1280 calories and you're doing insanity!?

Are you eating back the calories you burn?

I did insanity and my weight only shifted 4 or 5 pounts for the whole 2 months. I was just replacing the fat with muscle at the same time, muscle weighs more than fat.

Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat. A pound is a pound. Muscle just takes up less room on your body, but your weight won't shift so your measurements will decrease but the scale may not budge. Go by how your clothes are fitting instead of the scale.

Doesn't soundd like enough calories, also if you start a new program you can often gain weight as the muscles compensate - they hold water.
My advice, eat more, drink more water, watch sodium and all "sugars" plus also cut out the protein shakes and eat food at the natural source.
Also plenty of posts and advice on here about eating back your exercise calories too - I often eat back most not all :)

So i should consume more calories? By how much? As i really want to drop the podge

If i eat into the deficit its usually like an apple or low fat yoghurt.

Based on your stats you should be eating around 2000 calories total. You will not be eating back your exercise calories as i have calculated that in your calories. So 2000 calories daily.

No disrepect but its very unlikely that you replaced fat with muscle because cutting fat requires a calorie deficit and increasing lbm requires a calorie surplus. Besides insanity is too cardio based which will make it even harder to gain muscle.

LMAO.....thank you for saying that....that's what I tell people all the time.

To me it sounds like a couple of things are going on here..

this is just my opinion and experience, I am not an expert by any means.

    1. You're not eating enough to make up for the amount of work you are doing. The calculators on here are not as accurate as we would like, therefore if you can afford to, get a heart rate monitor, eat back those calories..

    2. Watch your sugars and processed foods. Eat as naturally as you possibly can.

    3. get rid of your scale and get a tape measure. Insanity is just that. Unless you are giving it little to no effort you will get results, your body is doing something different, but it WILL make changes. Stay focused, stay determined, stick to it and you will get there.

Best of luck on your journey!!

Well 2 weeks is nothing. You can't just start a new workout regiment and expect immediate results. I started 1 1/2 months ago and am starting to see results.....not in the form of weight loss, but in muscle tone and how my clothes fit. I suggest measuring every 2 weeks or so and stop fixating as much on the scale. Your more likely to start seeing some results after 30 days, then more after 60, then the most drastic at 90 days when doing Insanity or any of those 90 day program. I personally see more results with weight training, I also combine it with cardio. Don't give up, you have to give it more time. Doing to much can burn you out quick, trust me I know. Do something that is do-able for you that you can handle doing for a long time to come.

Make sure you are eating back the calories that you burn!! If your "net" is below 1200 you won't lose weight... it took me 2 years to figure this out! You are burning soooo many calories doing insanity so make sure you are tracking all your activity and eat those calories back!!

I hate when people say that muscle don't weigh more than fat......stop playing with words........1 cubic centimeter of muscle weigh more than 1 cubic centimeter of fat. end of story.

    OP : eat more! ;)

I had the same kind of issue. I actually ended up having to quit Insaity because all the jumping/landing and twisting on my ankle nearly broke it again. So (after a week and half non impact exercise) I started running and swimming and gave myself about 1050 more calories but I don't eat back my exercise and that's when I began to lose weight. Also I think drinking a ton of ice water is really helpful. (Not saying Insanity doesn't work, it just didn't work for me.)

Don't give up! You will see more results in the second month. Also you need to eat more! When I was doing Insanity I was eating 1900-2300 per day! You've got to fuel your body for those grueling workouts! You can use the formula in the nutrition guide for insanity the minimum cals suggested for a female in 1700 per day if I remember correctly! Stick with it you will not be disappointed! Good luck!

This also happened to me. I did 4 weeks of Insanity + 1 week of Crossfit and the scale did not budge one bit. However I lost 1 inch everywhere on my body, and I lost 2.75 inches below my naval in 3 weeks (I don't know how much in 5 weeks since my beginning measurements were taken incorrectly).

Please use a tape measure instead, easier said than done, I know.

PS. I'm 5'5 161 lb and I try to stick to 1800 calories daily on workout days.
