just trying to get less squishy

I've been on MFP for a few months but only recently discovered the message boards. I have to admit, I'm a little shy about posting, and reading some of the hostile and judgemental responses on other posts has me a bit apprehensive. But much of what ive read has been supportive and inspiring so I'm putting on my big girl panties and taking a risk. :blushing:
I dont need to lose much weight. My metabolism has changed a lot as I've aged and now that I'm *cough cough* 41, I have to be much more careful about what I eat because things really stick now. Im 5'5, started MFP at 125 and now am at 121.8. I know that sounds low for my height but I've always been on the lower end of the normal weight range for my height and I have a small frame. I'm not trying to be rail thin. I'm not trying to compete with 25 yr olds. But I feel my best when I'm around 115-117. And I want to unsquish myself. I have been jogging and recently started the 30 day shred because I know strength training is key to reach my goals.
So here's where i could use some help I'm completely confused about the number of calories I should be eating. I'm not so concerned about the number on the scale and would be fine being 125 if I had more muscle tone. My BMR according to MFP is 1234. But despite reading endless posts here, I still have no friggin idea what that means.
Help me unsquish, won't you? :flowerforyou:

I pretty "squishy" myself and I have you by 21 years. In any case my story is both in my profile and my single blog. If you think I can be of any assistance, send a FR and we can see what comes of "mutual aid."0 -
Hmm... I can't see your diary, so I don't know what you've been doing, but maybe it would benefit you to get a body fat percentage reading and work toward an improved body fat percentage, since you're pretty light already and want to let some muscles come through? Please feel free to add me if you want. We're close to the same age and are the same height. My goal weight is higher though- larger frame here.
