Not drinking

I am still young and live in a vacation area with casinos so has you can assume alcohol is a big deal around here. Prior to trying to loose weight i drank almost everyday. It was never a problem and have gone months without drinking due to medical issues and basically being stuck in bed. Now that i am social again it is really hard to go out with friends and not drink. Any tips on how to not drink in social situations? I don't really want everyone to know about me trying to loose weight because i am fairly small compared to my friends so they are not very supportive.

I'm still trying to figure out how to negotiate this myself... last time around I would just ask for cranberry juice with club soda, which *looks* like a real drink and has a little sweetness to perk me up. If I *really* didn't want to talk about it, I would just say that I was taking allergy medications or something like that...0

That is a good idea i am always taking some medicine. The problem of being un-diagnosed by doctors. I just find this to be the hardest part of my weight loss. Being young and single means basically everything i get invited to includes drinks. Guess that this is why its called a lifestyle change.0

You don't need an excuse not to drink anymore.
If your friends cant accept that then change them.
You are in charge of your own destiny don't be sucked in by peer pressure.0 -
Club soda with a lime or lemon wedge... or yeah, cranberry juice. Don't feel bad telling people, "Yeah, I don't drink much... hey, what's new with you?" *change of topic*0

I don't drink ever. I like having all my faculties under my control and not of some substance. And every one I know , knows this and accepts it. I f some one wants you to drink and you don't want to, tell them no. You don't have to give a reason, it is your choice. I always tell people I am fun enough with out alcohol .0

If the only reason you're not drinking is the calories, then look into lower-calorie alcoholic drinks. For example, Guinness is surprisingly low-cal. Or you could to a rum and diet coke. Just avoid the girlie drinks with a ton of juice in them.
But yeah, I have to agree with everyone here who says that, if your friends can't handle you not drinking alcohol, then you need new friends.0 -
thank you for the support we will see how it goes0
