Hi I'm 17 and I am trying to lose weight. Obviously. Well, anyways, For a while I watched the numbers on the scale climb and climb till recently I realized they wouldn't stop. One morning I decided to weigh my self and was shocked by the results. 10lbs away from 200lbs! At this point I knew I was in trouble, but like always, I never did anything about it. A couple days ago, I weighed my self again and it read 195.5lbs and that was it. Now I'm trying. I'm really trying. I have set goals and hung up motivational quotes and pictures. I created this account and so I can keep track of my progress.
The only thing is, is that I'm having a really hard time being motivated enough to work out and stop eating all the unhealthy food. I have worked out and in one week I lost 6lbs which is really goo, but I do not want it to go up, because if it does, I know from previous attempts that I'll quit again. I make up so many excuses, excuses that I even know are dumb excuses. Like how I tell my self I have no time to work out because I'm always working, which isn't true cuz I only work nights for 6 hours at the most then sit home watching TV for the rest of the day.
MOTIVATION is a big problem with me. And even though my mom and I are both trying to lose weight together; work out together, eat right together, etc, it's not really working. I thought having her be there trying to lose weight with me, she would be my motivation, but she has a lot of excuses too.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Or is there anyone out there who is is this same position and would like to 'buddy up' or what ever? I just need some real, good motivation...

I find MFP itself is just so helpful if you use it. Being able to look back on a good day and realize how well I did, or look back on a not so great day and realize they were wasted calories really helps me. It also helps to have buddies, so feel free to add me I really don't have any weight to lose, just maintenance, but it's a lifelong thing you have to work at everyday!0

You really have to want it. If you aren't motivated, its not going to happen. You need to use your food journal, it will make you very aware of what you're putting in your mouth. You have to find a way that works for you. put a stationary bike in front of the TV. I bought a recumbent one that doesn't hurt my butt like an upright and I watch tv while I use it. You have to find healthy foods that you like or you'll feel deprived and like you're starving. I absolutely LOVE meat. Steak, bacon, fried chicken... I could eat it all day everyday. The i watched a documentary called "earthlings" that showed what goes on in slaughter houses... Well I haven't eaten meat since. I'm trying new foods, some I like, some I don't, but I'm proud of myself for trying different things. Some things will taste awesome, and some you will just deal with for their nutritional content and the positive they do for your body. buy fruits and veggies that you like, and have them easily accessable for when you feel the need to snack. that can mean having veggies pre-cut in a bag and some dip in small cups. its far easier to make the right choice when its just as convenient as a bad choice. Each time you go shopping, try a fruit or vegetable that you've never tried before. When you're having a tough day, get on here and cruise the forums. They're very motivational!0

oh, and go make a ticker! 12 lbs doesn't seem like much at all when i think about how much i weigh in total. but when i see those stars on my ticker i realize it is a very good step towards me making it out of the 200s! the visual really makes me proud!0

I will send you a friend request. I am having a real hard time staying motivated myself. It is so hard. I lost 47 pounds but gained 8 - 10 pounds back. I got tired of eating salad every day but it's really the only thing that works. I did much better last year but not doing so good this year. I am having a hard time figuring out what to eat  Lately I have been binging and it is so wrong. So lets join up as friends and do the best we can do. Good luck as you start your journey. Please please don't let yourself get to 200 pounds. Take care.... :flowerforyou: Sue0

Yes, the posts above shud be of great help, but if I may suggest, can you also try reading through various sciece oriented posts which have been put up by various readers...
for starters, this helped me a lot:
a. keep a daily (i mean every minute piece of food you eat) and do it without fail, Use the mobile version if that helps...
b. try not to cut down heavily if its food that keeps you going forward, what i can recommend you try set yourselves achievable goals so that you wont fail nor will you tend under-achieve...for e.g set yourself for 1.5lbs per week loss instead of 2 (if it helps)
c. people incl me have chosen a lifestyles where we eat all what we want but in a controlled fashion and we have worked hard to set ours daily food chart....try making one for you..after 2-3 weeks of testing...
d...talk to ppl regularly about successes and how well u have done...keep reading success stories posted on this site...helps me a lot
Try to set a target which you will be confident of, like say cutting down on portions, going to gym, having a walk, eating early (before 8pm)....etc...drink lotsa water....
IT has helped us and im very sure it will help you...
Make sure...you talk to us all the time....we r there to help....0
