Iphone App Made Me See Potassium Intake...Scary!

I should have realized this a long time ago, but the new iphone app showed me for days now I am dangerously low on potassium intake. So, I start looking online at how much potassium is in food I generally eat, and can it be that the database is (for the most part) not tracking potassium? I eat a lot of lean cuisines and not much fresh fruits and veggies, so I can understand it being low, but I am only at 90mg today. How can that be?

Depending upon what you are eating, it is possible. There are foods rich in potassium. Bananas, and V8 juice (low sodium is better option) are two I know of for sure. I think potatoes are another good source, but glycemic, so not a good option if you are a carb watcher. I believe orange juice is also a good source.

You can google for sources of potassium in food. Another thing is you can take is a potassium supplement. They are available over the counter. I have taken one for a long time because the blood pressure med that I take is a diuretic which tends to reduce the amount of potassium my body retains.

Thanks so much for the informative response! It is hard to cut calories and at the end of the day not have any calories left for the nutrients the body needs. I guess I need to make better choices overall. I do like potatoes and juice tho! :)
