Gallstones

Does anyone suffer from gallstones?
After having my last 2 children, my liver levels were really high, so they scanned my gallbladder and said it was full of stones, but they said nothing needed to be done about it, my levels went back down, and have not been retested for 3 years. Lately I have been getting a lot of pain, stabbing pains in my belly and under my right shoulder blade, which I am assuming is the stones playing up, despite the fact that I have been eating better.
Has anyone had similar problems, what have you done about it. Any advice is much appreciated.

I was loaded with gallstones (like chicken gravel they told me) after my first child and had it removed when she was a month old. I remember well the severe pain. I tried taking antacids, gas relief stuff and watching what I ate. Spicy foods seemed to bring on pain, so I thought I had ulcers. After tests I was advised to have it out and I did. I have never missed it either :-) Unless there has been new medicine in the last 36 years to dissolve them (which they did have some back when I went thru it, but they didn't work for me) I would suggest having your gallbladder removed. Now days it's a simple surgery, unlike when I had mine out. Generally it's done as an outpatient now days. 3 small holes and it's out. Recovery time is minimal now. Good luck!

I had my gallbladder taken out a few years ago. I had stones too, and like you, had a lot of pain. A couple of times it felt like I was having a heart attack! Some say that after you have it taken out, you really have to watch what you eat, but that's not true for me. I pretty much eat anything and it doesn't bother me, but only once in a while. If your doctor won't take your gallbladder out, get a second opinion. It is same day surgery and I was back to work in a couple of days. Good luck!!

I had to have my gallbladder removed in Dec. 2009. I was having very bad attacks. Very sharp, stabbing pain in the middle (slightly more to the right side than left) just under my ribcage. I only went to the doctor because the pain was too severe to live with. Before I ever went to the doc, I had tried a few things to flush out the stones. I'd drink dandelion root tea. Also, I'd drink 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar mixed into a cup of apple juice. I even did a liver/gallbladder cleanse (http://curezone.com/cleanse/liver/huldas_recipe.asp). Everything I did helped, but I just had too many stones and too much sludge so it was just best to have mine removed. I hope you find some relief!

My family swears by a stone breaker tea. I am not sure if it is available at a local healthfood store but we get ours online at Remi Teas.

    Hope you feel better.

I had my gallbladder removed about a year ago after numerous severely painful attacks!!!! I did the research....there is no special diet, detox or tea that will rid your body of the stones. Believe me, I would not have opted for surgery if there was an easy fix. My attacks were so severe I would black out. Once in a grocery store!!...yay me. For me surgery was the best solution.

My gall bladder was removed 3 weeks ago. Apparently my gall bladder did not appreciate a rapid weight loss :) Oh well...c'est la vie!
  • Thanks for the advice, will talk to the doc about it, I have had 2 keyhole surgeries, so that;s not a problem, not sure if they would do it at my weight though.
  • i had mine removed about 15 years ago, my own fault i was very obese and ate enough junk for a small family and consequently was in agony. I had the odd twinge after but it rapidly went and im fine now. Its a very quick easy surgery now in and out the same day.

Yep the surgery was a piece of cake like smilesalatot said! In and out the same day. So worth not ever having that terrible pain again!!!! Good luck to you!

I had mine out emergency at 17. Went to the dr. cuz I had been sick and light headed and 'cramping' on one side very badly, and had a high temp for over a week. He listened to my gut and sent me for a Gallbladder ultrasound. Yup had a gallbladder full of gall stones and had gall stones that lodged into my liver and gall ducts. (Had some major issues with the hospital, bad experience and horror story so DONT go to a small town hospital. Lol)

They took it out and had to cut part of my liver duct off and clipped it. I ended up with 5 holes instead of 3 because my Gall bladder was so swollen and full of stones that it was too big, so they had to make another incision. And the 5th incision was for my liver ducts. Scars are minimal, and do lighten up very much.

I am one of the unfortunate people that became lactose intolerhant and get worse heartburn that I did before! and had to have a more strict diet because of it, but every one of my friends that had theirs out have no problems whatsoever.

Yeah you and me both. I had mine out 6 months ago, and my digestive has gotten a little better since I started this new healthy eating. But can't drink much milk, I feel constantly bloated with some foods i haven't narrowed down the culprits yet. I just know anything carbonated was one, and I developed a taste for spicy things, although it kills my stomach and gives me heartburn.

I also have a suspicion that I am not absorbing all the minerals and vitamins I need, and fear I am becoming slightly anemic. I haven't had a check since the surgery, but am planning one this week.

I miss my gallbladder, for months while I was pregnant they just kept telling me it was acid reflux, but I knew something was wrong and a month after delivery when the reflux was supposed to 'go away' it got worse.

The scars are going away though, happy they didnt have to slice me completely open

Lettuce, cheese, milk or dairy products, If you don't eat much during the day, spicy foods, bell peppers, ANYTHING with grease just tore/tears my stomach up. I will say after a few years it did get better. I have been on a few different meds to help control the upset stomach, you may speak to your doctor. There was one that I had to take right before I eat and it really helped! I also am anemic now (especially while I was pregnant) so it is very possible!
  • I had a gallstone attack, ended up in ER and they thought also pancreatitis because a stone was blocking my common bile duct. I have a family history and planned to get pregnant again so they removed it rather than risk I have another attack esp while pregnant.
