Protein Bars vs. Protein Powder

There's probably been a hundred threads like this previously so I apologize in advance.
Anyway, long story short, I've been getting my protein from food not from supplements. However, I'm trying to gain some weight and all this eating is cumbersome. I want to start supplementing with either protein bars or protein powder.
Is one necessarily better than the other or just a matter of personal preference? Bars seem more convenient while powder seems more cost-efficient from what I've seen. Thanks.

Bars generally have more calories from sugars and such than protein shakes, but if you're looking to gain weight, I think a mass gaining protein shake with a ton of calories is probably the way to go. At least that's how I'd do it.0

On a versatility and cost efficiency scale, protein powder is pretty hard to beat if you look at grams of protein per dollar. I use both depending the situation. I'll have a protein bar in the morning when I'm going from the gym to work because the bars are more convenient to travel with. When I'm at home, the powder is easy to work with and I can make a shake out of most anything to fit my macro requirements.0

I would up my calorie intake. I don't see world class athletes endorsing protein bars or powders so I think getting it from food is the best option. Protein bars and shakes are for lazy people like me who don't like to cook.
Hit the weights and eat more healthy food.0 -
In my personal experience (and I'm a gainer too) I prefer the taste of my Protein shake, but the bars can sometimes be higher calorie and higher carb, which can be great when you are on a day when you are running low on calories (but I find the texture of the bars a little odd, not that nice)...I also think that the shakes are cheaper per portion, esp if you get a good protein powder (the one I use had 20g protein in a under 1oz scoop)
I know in an ideal world we should get all out protein from food, but when gaining, it is sometimes easier to supplement, chicken is so low cal, and I can only eat so much of it! So I'm a big fan of my shakes and occasional bars. It is also cheaper in the long run and as a mum, that is important to me.
The gainer shakes are good for those days when you mess up and have a lot of cals to fill, but I think they are usually lower in protein, I have mixed the two of then together in a mega shake though, when it has been necessary.0
