This one is for the ladies

This is less of a diet question more of a nutrition question I guess. Here it goes...while we all may joke about a woman and her P.M.S. mine is pretty severe to the point of I have tried both zoloft and prozac which only made me numb and gain weight. I really can't take it anymore. It's starts about a week before and I'm not sure I can take much more. I cry about everything and anything. Happy or sad articles I read I can barely even look at the newspaper. My insides feel like they are screaming and enraged.
I thought a change in my diet might help me. Or at least the daily exercise but I have found the last few days to be difficult for me.
Surely there are some of you out here that feel this way and I want to know..is there some kind of natural remedy?

No answer I'm afraid - just a hug. It's horrid when you feel so crap. :flowerforyou:

For me, exercise helps, even when it's the last thing I feel like doing. I feel much less crampy and grouchy when I've worked out. Bonus if I get out of the house to work out - that gives me some time for "me" and I get in a workout too.

I find exercising helps (even though I would have tried to avoid it before). I suffer from extremely heavy flow and extreme mood swings, and recently changed from using sanitary products to a the cup. Have to say it has helped a bit (don't know why), still moody but not as bad. Also the cramps have improved.

Here is what works for me: I exercise if I can (first two days are too painful though). On the days that I cannot workout, I simply walk my dog a couple times a day. Walking seems to help with the pain. I also do some stretching/light yoga if I can or drink hot tea. By the end of the second day, I can usually go for a slow pace bike ride (which again makes me feel better). Nine out of ten times I am all good by day three.

Hope you can find some relief.

Just listen to that radio station WPMS. Each month they play 3 weeks of the blues and one week of ragtime.

i say leave the news paper alone- any triggers for emotional outbreak- out the door. Get some upbeat toons and movies. You have to psyc yourself into the good mood feeling, do not let the "oh here we go"set in. execise makse happy juices flow to the brain. you can do it!

Have you spoken to your GYN about your extreme TOM's? There may be some minor procedures that will help you...
  • try taking evening primrose its meant to be great for helping pms. i take it anyway even though ive never had pms but loads of women swear by it. Also cut your caffeine if you drink coffee, tea or pop :)

Leaving the newspaper alone is a great idea. :)

go on the pill and skip your period all together. this is what most MD's prescribe for women with pmd.
