HRM - can you wear strap only ? Leave watch.. still work?

Hi,
I have rejoined a netball team, and I can't wear any jewellery, including rings and watches. So I can't wear my usual HRM strap with watch (I've a Polar FT4) which I love, I never exercise without it. Helps me know exactly what I'm burning, rather than guess work.
So... I can't wear the watch. Will the strap still work - without the watch on my wrist. I have a small bag on the sideline of the netball court (with my car keys, bottle of water), could I put the watch in there, when I'm called onto the court, set it going and leave on the sideline (continuing to wear the strap to monitor heart rate) ?? I can press STOP when I'm finished. I know this will monitor the entire match including breaks (you play 4x quarters of 10mins, with 1-2 mins rest after each quarter).
What do you think ? anyone ever tried this ?? Curious especially as netball isn't listed as an exercise on here. It's a bit like basketball, but I don't think it's like it enough to count it in the same way...
Thoughts ??
Thanks,
Mel

I don't think that will work, they usually need to be in a certain proximity to each other.
But, you if you have any pockets, you could keep it in there, then it should still be close enough to register.0 -
No.. I believe there has to be a certain range that they work in.. and further and they don't.
Can you hook it on your bra or stuff it in a pocket? It would still work with those options.0 -
Ah I didn't think so. That's a shame. I have no pockets, and the netball mini-dress we have to wear as part of the kit has little scope for hiding it (on a bra strap or)...
Worth asking... thanks anyway all x0
