Help! Birth Control Ruined my Flat Stomach!

Hello MyFitnessPals, I am so upset because I have just started birth control (2 and a half weeks in) and ever since the first week, I have developed a horribly bloated stomach. I figured my body just needed to adjust its self but my stomach has gotten no flatter since  . I might even look worse now then before I lost 15 lbs. I really want this to go away and I don't know what to do! I've always had a fairly flat stomach and this is so devastating!

Has anyone experienced this?
Will it go away?

Any advice is appreciated.

OK, it might help if you told us which bc you are on though, to be honest, many of them do have this effect. It is because they mimic pregnancy.

Should consult your doctor for advising on this medical side effect.
  • Its called Tri-Cyclen

I agree with DanaDark. Talk to your doctor. There are so many different kinds of birth control. I'm sure you can get on something else, if you're having a side effect from your current one.
  • Ask your doc but if you don't have any side effects besides that maybe try giving it a month or two?
That happened to me and it was just water weight, after about two months it got better.
I was on Loestrin 24 though. Good luck!
  • Thanks for all the responses! I might wait a for a bit and if nothing changes I'll go ask my doc.

Give it some time... it can take a while for your body to adjust to the new pill. Ensure you drink enough water and limit your sodium to lessen the bloating.

You've only taken birth control for 2 weeks, it can take up to 3 months for your body to adjust to the hormones... Give it time. When I first started birth control I was slightly bloated and ravenous for the first month but I'm on my second pack now and everything has evened itself out. The bloating is gone and my appetite is back to normal, if not less than it was before.

If it keeps up after 3 months, then I would consult your doctor.

Not taking birth control ruinined my flat stomach. I now have a 6 year old daughter. Hehehe
  • I've the same problem. I'm going on to my 3rd packet but I've decided just to start sit ups and hope it goes down.

Try something natural like NFP and just knowing how your body works. Every birth control is going to have side effects because it is outside chemicals going into your body and making your body function how it was never meant to function. It is safer in so many ways, just as effective, but it takes effort and control.

But if you want something totally natural and effective then that is the only thing out there... otherwise welcome to the world of birth control side effects where every form of birth control does something to you that you are not going to care for presently or in the long run.

^ THIS!! I have a five and six year old and I love them and am so grateful to have them but I'd give anything to have that flat tummy back, even if it was bloated!! Honestly whatever the problem is sounds like an easy fix, stop stressing over it.
