How to break a plateau successfully??

There it is: PLATEAU! That ugly word none of us wants to hear.

If you have successfully broken past it, what are some of the things that have worked for you (in terms of both diet and exercise)?

I'd love to hear what others have to say--I've been in a 3-week plateau that's driving me nuts!

Try watching your Carb and Sugar intake...You can always take measurements of your body to see some good results, it's not always a scale thing.. Good luck

Kept at the same calorie deficit and exercise level and be patient. Also often cut the sodium back.

I was stuck at the same weight one week. And it's never happened again. Up your intensity, eat more (or less), and watch those macronutrients. Keep your sodium in check and stay within your goals.

How much did u up it to? I tried that and I gained 5 lbs and i am freaking out! I currently weigh 145.5 again after going down to 139.5 and MFP had me set up to 1370. I manually changed it to 1470 after calculating my BMR and TDEE & upped my food intake to 1600-1800 depending on my exercise burn and I am 5'1.

Are you getting enough water? If not, try to hit the 64 ounces daily

I started lifting weights and upped my cals to 1600... still nothing for about a month. :( It's really depressing and discouraging.

My last plateau was before I started running consistently. I had been doing plenty of cardio (elliptical mostly) but then I hit a plateau. I decided to skip the gym and go run. Now I'm running at least three days per week and doing gym cardio machines on the other days. It definitely worked for me.

I say try a new workout routine...since your body gets used to stuff and stops burning calories like it used to.

I'm thinking of upping my calories a bit and doing more strength training. But then other people have suggested cutting calories now that I weigh less so it would be great to hear how everyone else overcame their plateaus

I am still maintaining 138 since August but have lost more inches since then. I added C25K and C10K to my routine along with Jillian Michaels. Recently, I upped my strength training and the scale is going back upwards.:noway: ..and in a weird way I am learning to live with that :flowerforyou: ....I may never be 128 Lbs (or it might take me years to get there  ) but as long as I am losing inches. I have come to accept that I need to dump my scale and ignore the numbers on it. :drinker: After all as long as I am getting smaller, what does it matter whether I am 138 or 128??
