This is a thread for support and encouragement on knowing when to say "no" at night. This is for the late night bingers. We are not saying there is anything wrong with eating late, if that is what your schedule allows for. But most of us find that we just get the munchies sitting around the house at night or in front of the TV, and this is a post to hold YOURSELF accountable and try and break what you might feel is a bad habit.

Everyone decides for themselves what the cutoff time is. A good rule of thumb that some people go by is 2 hours before they go to bed. But find what works for you. Challenge yourself a little at a time. You may have different times throughout the week as your schedule may be different (especially with the holidays this week).

PLEASE JOIN US AND ENCOURAGE US. What is your best of 7 this week?

It begins today :)

I will definitely try this for the week. What does everyone use to keep from eating late?

Some people say brush your teeth, but in all honesty, for me that only lasts for about 20 minutes or so. My latest thing is peppermint tea with a packet of splenda. Really strong peppermint tea. It makes me feel like I've just brushed my teeth, and the liquid settles my belly.
  • I drink a bottle of water and try to get involved in something to keep my mind off of it!

i do the teeth brush thing and it works really well for me. but i tend to get cavities easily, so once my teeth are brushed i can't eat anything otherwise i have to brush again (AND I HATE BRUSHING MY TEETH).

and it's true what they say about peppermint, it's an appetite suppressant just like coffee. when my teeth feel all clean, sparkly and minty i really don't have the munchies anymore. the trick is forcing yourself to brush your teeth before you eat anything you shouldn't. when i lived in a 2 story house it helped to keep my tooth brush on the main floor in the bathroom by the kitchen rather than upstairs by my bedroom.
  • I'm down, i'm horrible with eating late at night. I'm cutting off my eating at 6 pm
  • I have to agree, I usally eat my dinner around 5:30 or 6 & then between then and when i get out of work i usually have a yogurt around 8pm & a fruit around10pm.....im not sure how good that is, but it always keeps me full and never craving

I'm in and counting last night.
lulabellewoowoo, I had a question for you in the other thread: do you plan to let this run over Christmas as well?. Like I said there, a bit of control over Christmas can't hurt .

I've had to readjust my cutoff times as I have been adjusting it to my family's crazy schedule this week. But once I sit down to dinner, I give myself half an hour from that point, and then eat nothing else the rest of the evening. So last night was 6:30, which isn't bad seeing as I didn't go to bed until 10.

    How is everyone doing?

For me, I just decided that I'm going to pick no later than 9, or 2 hours before bed. As I get up at 3 even on Xmas day to work, I can't go to bed past 11 and function. But if I go to a party, I'll probably make it like 10. But sometimes, there are just special occasions, so one night of enjoying yourself in moderation won't hurt at all :) This week, I'm kind of taking it day by day instead of my normal because my family's schedule is so off.

What are you going to do Dewdrop?

I'd also go by your rule (stop eating about 2 hrs before going to bed), because otherwise I'll be too full to sleep properly, I'm pretty sure. I'll see how it goes.

As for last night, we got back from shopping way too late, so dinner was late - I did not snack after dinner, but still, it was too late :ohwell: .

Well, last night was a bust, but I didn't do too badly. I had a raging headache yesterday that made me so sick to my stomach I couldn't eat. After I took a nap, I had a meeting until 9. Then decided I should eat and see what happened to the headache, so hubby took me out. Didn't eat too much though, but could feel the difference when I was trying to go to sleep. Blah stomach and headache didn't mix.
    So I'm 2 for 3 right now.

I, on the other hand, had a very good night last night.
Hope your headache was gone soon enough to get proper sleep and hope you feel good today.

Thursday was again good, last night was average . So I won't count last night, cos I know I can do better.
How's Christmas for everyone else? Hope you're all having a wonderful time with you dear ones.
