How to handle my cravings? :(

I'm like alwaaaaays craving chocolate or cheese or something like that and idk what to do about it sometimes. Some days I'm able to shake it off and stick to my plan but other days I can't help myself and I give in.
There are two problems with the "moderation" solution that everyone says...

1.I'm an athlete so I'm not just worrying about staying under my calories-I'm also worried about the nutritional content of my food
and 2. I seriously can't do moderation. I'm weak and if I give in to one little square of chocolate I know I'll be back for more later

Any suggerstions?

Find ways to distract yourself... read a book, call a friend, take a walk. Distract yourself. If you can't moderate then dont' keep them in the house. Find lower calorie alternatives.. chocolate pudding, hot chocolate, etc.

Have you read It Starts With Food, or done a Whole 30, its a great way to get rid of cravings. Definitely agree that if one piece leads/triggers you to wanting more then don't buy it. I used to be like that with chocolate, did the Whole 30 and I've had a bar of 90% dark choc in my house for 2 months.

I try not to keep stuff like that in my house but my parents buy it and so that makes it hard to stay away from unhealthy foods

I am just trying to follow the 80/20 rule and letting myself have something I crave each day if I crave something, whether that be an ice cream cone, piece of cake or a chocolate bar. Sure, in an ideal world I would eat 100% clean all the time, but having been there and ended up having massive binges, I decided it is better to just have something each day, and call it quits. I workout almost everyday as well, so usually have around 2500 calories allowance anyway to maintain.

Yeah same here, I'm supposed to be eating around 2500 too because I work out 2-3 times a day so I eat frequently and as soon as I give into a craving I blow it and then end up ruining the whole day :/

I'll look into this whole 30 thing..but could you give me some more details on what I can expect to get from the book before I buy it?

Are your parents supportive of what you're trying to do? Maybe you could ask them if they buy things like chocolate/cookies if they could please hide it somewhere. I've done that with my husband when we had cookies in the house that I kept craving. What usually works for me is getting out of the house when I get a bad craving. I go for a walk and listen to music and by the time I get back it usually has passed. Other than that, it's just self control. It's really hard but once you do it, you wake up feeling so good about yourself the next day.

I didn't do Whole 30 but I did do a no white carbs/refined sugar for 30 days to get rid of the cravings. It DOES work. Now I no longer have cravings. I had a piece of chocolate as a treat 3 weeks ago...haven't wanted any even though its still in my fridge. You go cold turkey and you make up your mind that this what you have to do. :)

I'm willing to try that, but how did you cut out those foods?

I've heard that all cravings will die if you ignore them for around 15 minutes.

I just did. Did't eat potatoes, bread, pasta, noodles rice, or anything with refined sugar like candy, soda, cake, cookies, etc. Its not easy...you have to fill up on other things like veggies and fruit, although I limited my fruit a bit at first because of the carbs. I gave myself ONE day (it was my birthday) to have an off day treat....birthday cake. Next day right back on. I did it. After the 30 days I started to add whole grains in...sweet potatoes, wheat bread...BUT in moderation, I dont eat bread every day. And, as I said, chocolate is an occasional treat if I can fit it into my numbers. It CAN be done...you just have to want it. :)
