No idea how small I can be

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem. I'm about 6 stone overweight, but I carry it really evenly, so if I push my fingers in to my hips they don't go in a lot, and it keeps making me think that I'll never be able to be a size 12 or anything. When I look at jeans I even used to wear I can't imagine being able to be small enough.
Has anyone else with a larger build got down to a size 12? Or will I only ever be a 14/16?

I used to think the same thing about myself. I never thought I'd ever be able to be smaller than a 14 because of my build. But...I'm there now (down from about a 20) and I can clearly see that I can get smaller yet. Maybe a 12, maybe even a 10. I thought my hips were going to be the deal breaker, but now that I'm where I thought would be my ultimate smallest size, I can see that I was wrong. Yes, the hips are still there, but I still have a lot to lose all around.
Keep working and you'll be surprised at where you can get0 -
I used to be a size 10/12 (UK) when I first met my husband 7 years ago. I'm currently a size 14/16 after having a baby 8 months ago. I think the same I'll never be a size 10 again but if I was it once I must be able to. I have a large frame and don't see how my rib cage can ever let me be that small again. I can feel my hip bones quite well already but I know I can fit into smaller trousers by losing a lot of my bum and thighs. I carry weight evenly all over so when I say I have 3 stone to lose people look at me shocked but even then that will only get me down to 11 stone. Everyone is different. Stick with it and you'll be surprise how small you can get (healthily)0

When I started losing weight I was a US 10/12.. and since I had been that for so long, my US size 6 pants looked ridiculously small and like they would never fit.
Well fast forward a year, and I'm now wearing US size 4.
So you will get smaller.. it just takes time.0 -
That's amazing! Well done all of you! It must be able to happen, it's good knowing that people have been the same size as me and gotten down to a 12. I'm not sure I'd look very good as a 10, but we'll see when I get there! It's day 1 again now, going to give myfitnesspal a proper go this time.0

I have a long ways to go yet but am getting there, I remember when I was in school I was a size 7 jr's but I was really sick and went from a sz 9 jr's to the 7, I am pretty sure I won't be able to get lower than that but I have a long ways to go yet. I did go from a sz 22/24 Womens to a sz 16/18 Misses and I haven't been this size since my 23yr old and 21 yr old were really little. Right now I am going at it more slowly than I really want to but with my age factor things aren't bouncing back the way it would have when I was younger {extra skin} Not like my little sis cb83580 :P {10 yrs difference} You will get there don't give up!0

I'm currently a 12 (US), and I weigh 175lbs. I carry my weight fairly evenly also, and I have been as big as an 18 (at 256 lbs), and as small as an 8 (at 150 lbs). It is possible to get smaller on a large frame, but it will be (or is for me, at least) a more athletic build. If you are bigger to start with, just don't set your heart on being rail thin. Keep pushing towards your goal and mearusing more than just weight to see progress.0

I would recommend taking all your measurements, and then use a calculator, like the ones on fat2fitradio.com to figure out your BF (Body Fat) %, and your LBM (lean Body Mass). When you figure out your lean body mass, you can do a simple calculation to figure out how much you will weigh at various healthy BF%.
Goal Weight = LBM*100/(100-BF%)

I have always noticed this with might hips.
I can EASILY feel my hip bones, regardless that I'm very overweight.
I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to wear 'tiny' jeans, but I really like my hips - so I don't mind.
I just figure I have a large frame. I have strong shoulders and hips.0 -
I am 285 pounds.
I can feel my ribs, and hip bones perfectly without pressing / pushing in.
I am a size 24 in pants, and I also know I can be a size 7.
You'll just have to work at it and see0 -
i'm large framed, i think size 6 (US) is going to be my smallest before i start looking like bad. besides that i tend to have large boobs and i'd need a little more fat on other parts of me to make it look less pronounced.
the last time i was at my goal weight (actually 15 pounds lighter) i was a size 4 pants, 30J up top and super skinny everywhere else. i looked like crackheaded stripper. not a good look :noway:0
