I am new to shakes but I like to use almond milk as a base. I add assorted berries, ice and a small amount of agave. Probably not high in protein but you could use more high protein ingredients instead of the berries.
  • Well I am going to say (I am clueless when it comes to shakes!) I just use the spec. K ones because I don't know enough about others to make.

I would love to know more about any of them that will pack a great deal of protein in them!!

    :-)

My favorite homemade one is almond or coconut milk as a base, 1tbsp of natural peanut butter, 1 banana and ice. I also buy some whey protein powder once in a while but not a big fan of the taste.

Vanilla whey protein, acacia fiber powder, a packet of Starbucks Via instant coffee, 1/2 tsp of Vietnamese cinnamon, and skim milk. The thing I like best about it (other than it's really tasty) is I can shake it all up in a blender bottle.

I drink the Special K chocolate protein drinks if I need to grab something quick or I make strawberry banana smoothies:

    1 banana
    3 oz. frozen strawberries
1/3 cup milk (I use soy, almond, or flax milk -- vanilla flavored if I want it a little sweeter)
    2 ice cubes
1/8 cup water to thin it out a little
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder

    Yummy and filling!

Mine is simple, but I haven't experimented and just used when I have in the cupboard. I drink them because I cannot stand the protein powder as is.

    1 scoop protein powder
    4 oz fat free milk
    1/2 a banana
    3-4 strawberries
    a few ice cubes

I love it, but my husband hated it, so I gave him frozen raspberries, and he liked that one.

Thanks to everyone for mentioning the frozen bananas! That would save me from having to add ice cubes. Can the bananas just be thrown in the freezer skin and all or peeled and placed in a bag?

Spiritein Vanilla protein powder - 1 scoop

    1 tsp Metimucil unflavored (fiber)
    1 cup of skim milk

Blend and enjoy the creamy thick shake.

One scoop of Optimum Nutrition Natural Chocolate Whey (it is the best tasting protien powder I have found)
    1 cup of baby spinach
1/2 frozen banana (banana's give a nice consistancy)
Either a few large strawberries or 1/2 cup blueberries (frozen)
    Water

Put in the Vitamix blender til it is the right consistancy (20 seconds usually) and it's done.

That's pretty much it. To be honest I can just drink the protien powder with no fruit, but I use it as a post workout drink so I add the fruit.

Sometimes I will add almond milk, either vanilla or plain, but it isn't necessary. My fruit is frozen so I don't really need ice.

    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup small curd low fat cottage cheese
    1/2 - 1 cup water
    1/4 tsp coconut extract
    1/8 tsp caramel extract
2-4 packets sweetner (I don't use any but some do)
2 tbs sugar free instant chocolate puding mix
    3-5 ice cubes

Just blend it all together. Super yummy!

I'm highly addicted to peanut butter cups; but, at 210 calories of fatty nastiness per package, i've come up with a protein shake alternative.

1 cup of light soy milk
1 serving of chocolate protein powder
and 3 table spoons of PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter (tastes AMAZING with no fat!)
    and... of course... ice. :-P

the ones on dashingdish.com!! They are awesome :) My favorite is the maple one -- it has 1/2 cup cottage cheese, 1 scoop protein, 1/2 c. water, 2 tbsp. butterscotch pudding, xanathan gum (to thicken it), and maple extract (which I always leave out).

    ButterFinger Shake

The recipe comes to 370 calories and was meant as a meal, but I split it with the hubs to have it as a snack. Feel free to play around with the ingredients to get it just right for your taste buds (which is what I did in the beginning).

1 scoop Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey in Chocolate
1/2 the package of Jello Sugar Free Fat Free Butterscotch instant dry mix
1 tablespoon Jif Natural Peanut Butter Creamy
1/2 tablespoon Hershey Unsweetened Natural Cocoa
3 packets of Meijer brand sugar sub (for Splenda packets)
8 oz Fat Free 1% Milk
    8 ice cubes

Blend on high for a minute or so (I ballparked this). Stop blender. Let sit for 30 seconds (I timed this). Blend again until ice is blended smooth.

This is not a creamy shake (which we don't have a preference) but I am sure you can make adjustments to get creamy. A friend of mine adds whipped cream and nuts, some leave out the unsweetened cocoa... play with it. We think the recipe above is pretty dead on to a butterfinger taste.
