Too many seem to be slaves to the scales...inches can be lost without a significant loss of lbs...my guide is my weight belt and the way I have to move it to a narrower notch, but, for you, it could just as easily be those trousers or dresses...before you start, try a favourite item on that is becoming just a bit too tight and then, on the same day each week, try it again...you'll be amazed!

The weird thing is, there have been studies that show that people who weigh in daily are more likely to hold themselves accountable and thus more likely to stick to their diet/exercise regimen.

But I definitely hear you, I did an experiment for a week where I weighed myself about 5 times a day, just watching the fluctuations on the scale. If you keep yourself well hydrated you can add about 6/7lb of weight on in a day. The scale is not the be all and end all, but it's still a useful tool. Just use once a week/month.

    Amen!! Great reminders...:-)
  • So true!

I still weigh myself every morning to motivate myself to eat better for the day, but I dont freak out if the needle hasn't moved!

I track my progress by how I feel in clothes, and being able to climb a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing! :)

I am zen with the scale, I weigh and record first thing every morning. I also record everything I eat, and monitor my activity level daily with a Nike Fuel Band. It's a total of 15 minutes each day that I invest in my health. I am in maintenance mode so every day I stay on plan is a victory, and the numbers don't lie...

I'm in maintenance now so don't really weigh in that often, twice a month if that. I agree that some people weigh too much, you can stay accountable from weighing in once a week-fortnight and especially if you're 'following the programme' there is no reason you should be gaining weight and it will only show anomalies such as water retention, hormonal changes, muscle repair etc which can really discourage or confuse people.

I agree that measurements are one of the most motivating things during weight loss. I got far more of a kick shrinking in my clothes that the number on the scale so I say good advice! :flowerforyou:
