I just had stitches put in my right ankle today (derm related) and am looking for exercise suggestions/alternatives. My usual routines include treadmill and Jazzercise workouts, both of which are a no-go right now. Can anyone suggest ways to get a burn in besides hand weights on the sofa? The main obstacle is the stitches are in the top crease of my ankle, and I can neither bend nor point it for at least five days. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Sit on the couch and do punches! It'll get that heart rate up!

Thanks for the suggestion!! I also tried leg lifts in several directions and that was fairly effective, too. Anyone else have any ideas?

I am dealing with healing sprain in the ankle so I hear ya lol I can now get some walking in but what i did a lot of was girly pushups, (crunches, shadow boxing-these two you can do sitting), donkey kicks and weights
  • Check out the cardio abs part of Insanity. From what I remember it shouldn't put a lot of strain on your stitches and it will definately get your heart rate up

A lot of core & upper body exercises! Boxing with resistance bands, push ups on your knees (if you can do the regular push ups, try plyometric push ups) For leg exercises you could get on all fours & lift your legs to the side, up & down. It will really work your bottom! Here is a link that show pix of the exercises I am referring to. Examples 2 & 6

Maybe do some bicycles like in grade school. Lay on your back, support your lower back with your hands if needed, put your legs in the air and start peddleing. (sp?)

May not be the funnest, but would get some leg movement in for you.
