How come when you're tracking your exercises it will track calories burned on cardio but it won't track calories burned on strength/weight exercises? I know you don't burn as much but it should count for something...

Can't explain the why of it, but I track strength training under circuit training, which will give you calories. Accuracy? Not so sure, but it works for me.

I"m not an expert, I'm sure someone else that is will chime in. But I believe it's because your HR doesn't get THAT high while strength training. It has to do with % of HR you are at and strength training alone doesn't give you the HR above X % to "count" as calorie burn, so in theory you won't be eating "those" calories back. You are still burning them, but not the same as cardio burn.

As an example, I can lift for an hour - with warm up and stretch and my HR is avg of 108... which is less than X% of what it would require to be considered calories burned. Just like Yoga - I track it - but HR is only about 98 when I do it. My resting HR is in the 40's so 98 is more significant for me, but it still doesn't "track" as calories burned.

From what I understand (someone explained it a year or so ago), there is just too many veriables with strength. How much weight are you using? How many reps, sets, etc. You can log it as either circuit training or strength training under cardio.

Even the cardio calculations aren't very accurate becuase they're only based on your personal data, there's no way to really know how hard you were working. Like I could be on the elliptical next to someone of my same height but they're going slow, while I'm going fast and have the resistance set higher. So even othough we're both 5'7" 170 pound females, our burns will be much different.
