Okay, so I'm nervous about this. I forgot my lunch at home and now I'm not sure what I should eat. I'm starving, but I don't want to go thru a drive-thru. With the anonymity of eating in my car, I make the worst choices!!!

I live in a small-ish town, no healthy alternatives, and I only have 30 minutes for lunch, which doesn't give me enough time to go home to eat.

Help me!

Do you have a Subway near your work? That is a decent option when it comes to "fast food". Just watch out with the lunch meats and dressing due to the sodium.

Is there a grocery store by your work? Could you pop into one for a salad? Or healthy sandwich? Depending on your calorie goals you could run into a fast food place and get a small slice of pizza and a salad (be careful on the dressings though as they can be high in cals).

I dont know! My best advice woudl be.... It's just one day. Pick up where you left off tomorrow and dont be afraid of food. Let it work with you, not against you. :)

Also, can you eat while working? Not sure if you work a desk job or something where you're up and moving about constantly. I tend to just eat my lunch at my desk while working on my paperwork. I also only get 30 minutes but when I'm not on the sales floor I can nibble away at my lunch while in my office.

Also, an option from a grocery store would be if they have the fruit or veggie mini trays. Some grocery stores carry small trays with a dip and things like broccoli, pumpernickle bread, carrots etc.
  • Do you have a grocery store near by? You could always buy bread, veggies, fruit, or deli meat, etc

If you only have the option to eat fast food, go inside is my reccomendation. I tend to eat badly when I'm in my car or by myself. If you go inside you can remind yourself to make better choices.

If I have to go to McDonalds or say Wendy's I know what I'm going to order before I step foot inside. Most chain fast food restaurants have nutrition information online. Go check it out if it's available.

If I go to Mcdonalds, I usually order a grilled chicken sandwich without mayo or the bun and ask for a side of bbq sauce. I'll also order a pack or two of apple dippers without the caramel sauce.

Just remember, "What you do today, can improve all your tomorrows."

Subway! That's good...I'm sure I can keep it under calories. There is a grocery store right near, so maybe I'll go get one of those pre-made salads in the produce section.

    Thanks!

I don't know why, but I just completely panicked! Lol. Because, as sad as this sounds, in my brain, there were no other alternatives to fast food. Ugh.

If there is a taco bell, you could order off the fresco style menu. : )

I also vote for grocery store. You can get some fruit to go with whatever you get and sometimes they have healthy-ish sandwiches. The one near me humors me when I ask for things like 3 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese too :)

If you hit up McDonald's, the salads with grilled chicken aren't terrible health-wise, especially if you get the balsamic dressing and/or use less than the full packet.

If you end up getting something totally unhealthy (like I did because I, too, forgot my lunch today), embrace it :) I had a super tasty unhealthy lunch and will be having a healthy dinner and moving on.

    Grocery Store
    Chipotle
    Subway

The restaurants listed above also have nutritional info online so you can get a very good estimate on your calorie intake before ordering.

I was in the mall once- same problem. There is NOTHING to choose in the mall. I went to GNC and bought some atkins snacks. I was in charge of getting a bunch of teens to and from- so leaving the mall was not an option - I was stuck til dinner time and hadnt planned. I ate an atkins bar and my emergency pistachios in my bag - lol- it worked. No guilt, no slipping, and I felt fine.

Subway has a bunch of subs under 400 calories- just skip fatty dressings.
Grocery stores have lose fruit and sometimes salad bars or made salads.
    Health store have power bars.
Gyms- is there one near you? Even if not a member- go in and get a protein shake.

Some ideas when caught out in the world of junk food- if you dig deeper- you can find the good stuff!

One Subway's website you can "build your own" and it tells you the calories... go for it!! :D

It sounds like you have a solution already, but I'll chime in with my two cents. When I get stuck in a similar situation, I go to the grocery store and buy a little container of pre-cut fruit, a string cheese, and a little package of nuts or crackers. Does the trick! It's definitely more expensive than bringing my own lunch from home, but better for me than the #2 meal at McDonald's that I always seem to end up ordering. :(
