im alittle nervous for the diet because im very bad at keeping up with being healthy. its not like i eat a lot of fatty foods its just that i eat heavy and during really bad parts of the day. ive done some diets where i loose 15lbs and then stop and gain 20lbs. i really hope i can get through this with being in a house with people that love food. there is always a bunch of Cuban bread and sweet tea everywhere in this house. is there anybody that can give me some tips on how to stay focused and strong ?

Make sure you log everything. That's what's keeping me on track, I see what I'm eating. I also find myself avoiding some foods because I don't want to log it and make those numbers go up lol. Also, don't think of it as a diet, this is a change to make yourself happier and healthier. If it's a diet, then eventually you're gonna quit and start gaining again.

hi there! welcome to mfp!
first, don't think of this as a diet. a diet, at least to me, means, a temporary change which may produce temporary results. instead, think of this as a long-term, LIFESTYLE, change.
what can you do in a house full of people that love food? learn portion control. it's hard in the beginning. trust me, i know. it takes a lot of willpower, but after a while, it'll be as easy as 1-2-3 to pass up on the sweets. what has worked for me is seeing "if everyday was like today, you'd weight XXX in 5 weeks" after completing my entries for the day. seeing that number go lower and lower as the weeks go by is awesome!0 -

I agree with this quote. Just start logging in your foods everyday. Also, I hate the term "diet." Make this more of a lifestyle change for yourself. Plus, it's okay for you to have cheat day, I'd probably say once or twice per wk. Don't gorge on everything but on a meal or two or items you've just been craving. See if those in your household can also help you with the new lifestyle change. JUST BE AS STRONG AS U CAN. U have plenty of support here on MFP!0 -
that does make alot of sense with the diet part. ill make sure i log everything on my phone. one step at a time i guess
the thing that probably sucks the most if im 19 and have a lot of skinny friends that eat what ever. i know its hard and i have done it before. its just the part of no to food. i am very good at saying ill start eating healthy tomorrow lol. and the exercising flew out the window when i quit softball and band.0 -
Nothing to add except encouragement. The posters above are relaying how I view and do it. Nearly 50- pounds gone in 6 mos here0

I am also new to this. I have tried other diets before only to fail. Now that i'm doing this MFP I feel so encouraged. I think it's just a concious decision I made when I saw my weight increasing. I don't think about it so much as loosing weight as I do that I need to be healthier and happier and I can't do that being the current weight I am. I have found it's so important to log it. I have never done that before but now I can see how much what I take it actually counts for. I can understand being in a household with tempting things and with people who can eat those tempting things because they don't gain like I do. I have had to just put the brakes on it. I can find healthier alternatives that satisfy my sweet tooth like an apple with a teaspoon of peanut butter. When it comes to drinks I love diet coke but I know how unhealthy that actually is so I buy MIO or crystal ight to add to my water if i want something different. It is hard but you're not alone and that's the great thing about this site! Just focus on how much better you will feel when you accomplish you're goal!0
